Question:

Could 'God' be the cultural byproduct of early society's understanding of the self-concious?

Well...if you respect your self-concious sooo much to a point where you refer it to the third person as a way to distinguish yourself from the macro-perspective of the reality, I could see how one would refer God as something beyond understanding. Personally, even though I've come up with this conclusion, it's impossible for me to refer myself in the first person as God; I allow my concious to fulfill that role (in the third person).

  1. I believe that to be true but only our own deaths or the return of Jesus or some other undeniable miracle will yield /prove the truth.

  2. No

  3. Indeed it is possible.

The evolution of the concept of God is very complex and shrouded in the mist of eons of unwritten history.

For an interesting look at it, see "Treatise on the Gods" by H.L. Mencken.  Mencken does some reasoning to try to find out how early peoples' concepts of the divine came about and were structured.

  4. Religious ideas?  Yes.

The true God, of Israel and the Bible?  No.

  5. What the question fails to address is, where did the spiritual nature of man come from?  If the concept of God is only a by product of something that happened early in the development of man, why haven't we out grown that by now.

While group dynamics, cultural and upbringing all play a part in shaping man's understanding of religion there seems to be a personal spiritual quest that transcends all of these things.

  6. This is an easy one. The answer is a big NO!

  7. What are you, a psychology or sociology major? Both fields are permeated by humanists and humanism. I have little patience for psychologists, because they know that there is not much that can be known about the human mind. They dance around this by giving wordy snow jobs.

  8. No - that's just another deceitful trick by a wrong spirit.

  9. That describes polytheistic gods, which were created by early societies to explain that which could not understand as they had turned away from God.

  10. God is real

And all people will find this out

    pretty soon

  11. It's possible, although I do not hold you hypothesis to be correct due to personal opinions on various matters

  12. Yes.
