I am sitting here watching the practice and happy hour and it seems that the guys running well the first stint are now wicked loose and the guys that were wicked loose in the first stint are now runnning well. No rear grip? Are we in for another Indy affair? New tires every 15 laps or so? You would think after all of last year and this year to date that they would get a handle on this new car and know what changes to make but it seems from all the brands that one minute you have it the next you don't. Great car to junk in one lap? The 18 screams and the 20 is so loose Smoke can't drive it? The 24 screams and the 48 and 88 looks like it's in an ice race? the 99 runs fast and sticks like glue but the 17 looks like a dirt track car? Kasey's 9 is soso but Elliotts 19 is on a rail? Just thoughts to ponder!

  1. Elliott's on a rail? Nice. This whole tire situation from the last 3 years is getting ridiculous. Time to bring Hoosier in. I think Goodyear should have lost it after the 2005 Lowe's races.

  2. Some of the guys got a better handle as the practice wore on. Jimmie ended up 3rd fastest. But yeah, Stewart's car has a long way to go tomorrow night. He is going to have his work cut out for him. My man Carl ended up mid-pack during happy hour. The biggest shocker was Dave Blaney sitting up their with the fastest car.

I wonder if the track temp. was very hot compared to the first practices. Maybe tomorrow night as the track cools down we will see some of these cars that struggled during practice get some grip.

  3. it seems that may be the case

    NOOOO Matt don't wreck

  4. The harshness of the track surface is what caused the problems at Indy. During practice the crew tries different set-ups. From what I understand this COT (c**p Of Today) has major balance issues. Remember, NASCAR also dictates what shocks may be used, caster/camber, minimum air pressure in tires, etc.

Plus, remember, it's becoming evening and the track itself is cooling off. That's why I'll never  understand why they qualify during the day when the track is 122 degrees, but the race will be run at night. Stupid is as stupid does I guess.

  5. It will be interesting to watch!
