What do you think? And if not. . .what if you were a trainer what would you tell them to do against Ali and what kind of boxer would you want?

  1. NO ONE could beat Ali at his best.

  2. If people cant predict fights which are going to happen how can they predict fights that cant. You cant compare eras. If tyson hadnt fought buster nobody would say he could of beat tyson

  3. LOL theres nothing Butterball Buster could do to win this fight. Douglas had a wicked jab with allot of steam behind it. But Ali would not succumb to the jab like Tyson did. Ali would move and slip Busters jab and counter, but round 5 Douglas is wheezing, he comes out for the 6th round and Ali lets loose sending Douglas to the canvass 3 times before the red halts the fight.

If he cant stay in the mix he will fall in six.

Ali would carry him a couple rounds just to make his prediction come true.

    Ali 6th round TKO

In Ali's prime there was virtually nothing you could do. Ali was years ahead of his competition at the time. Later in his career he had trouble with fast boxer punchers but could still handle big brawlers.

Basically the only strategy that might work against a prime Ali is to not chase him, let him come to you and try and counter him, but even that would be a long shot. You really have to watch the man fights early on to understand why they call him the greatest.

  4. no for sure do you thing he'll beat him.

  5. Buster Douglas' Prime consisted of one fight, the win over Tyson.  I remember Evander Holyfield saying about Tyson, after beating him the first time,  "He's right there to be hit,  How can you NOT hit him".  Naturally, ALI would be at the opposite end of that spectrum.  Archie Moore once said of ALI,  "You can't hit him in the *** with a handfull of rice".

Let's just imagine Douglas at his "One night" Prime, against Prime ALI.  Douglas would give ALI all kinds of problems early on, just like Prime Larry Holmes would.  The difference is that, even with all the motivation Buster had that night,  ALI would soon learn that this 230lb. man CAN jab.

There really isn't much difference between 215 and 230 when you're talking about Heavyweight "Boxers".  The only time one really has an edge over the other is when one is a BOXER and the other is a PUNCHER.  Then the winner is determined by how well One adjusts to The Other's style.

Buster LOOKED like a superior boxer against the very immobile Tyson.  However, against ALI, or even Larry Holmes, who can beat everyone ALI can beat, but lacking ALI's movement, Douglas would look rather slow.

Watching closely how his clubbed feet got him out of the way time and time again, against Tyson,  I could see him laboring to try to trap ALI in a corner or against the ropes.  There WAS no "rope-a-dope" to Prime ALI.  It's a proven Fact that Missed punches take more than twice the amount of energy from you as Landed punches.  Douglas would miss A LOT.  That's what happened to Sonny Liston.   Miss enough jabs and see what happens to your shoulders.

ALI would spend most of the early going moving.  He would begin landing over the top of the now lazy jab of Douglas, in the middle rounds.

ALI becomes much bolder and begins planting his feet and landing harder punches.  People forget he DID have some power BEFORE the exile.  It's just a matter of time from this point on.

    ALI by TKO in 12

douglas was lucky for one night, just as leon spinks and haseem rahman were.

if i were douglas' trainer, i wouldn't have done much different as he was in the best shape of his life when he fought tyson.....but it just wouldn't be enough against ali, not by a long shot.

  9. OH GOD YES!!!! Buster was good, not great! He had no speed, or skill! Only thing he had was a hard punch! Ali would've taken him out in 2 rounds max!

  10. Buster Douglas had a prime? LOL. I can only think of one thing he could do to win a fight with Ali. Shoot him.

  11. Yes.  If you had some decent speed your trainer would tell you to go right at Ali.  If you have some decent power like a Norton you would give Ali some trouble.  The problem is Ali could be hit with overhand lefts but he learned to watch out for them as he was hit by Frazier and others.  All things considered a young Ali had too much speed and skill to be beat by anybody.
