Question:

Could Any body help me by explaining how the Class structure goes in horse racing.?

I know that the top is group one, group two, grop three, then listed but after that does it go to class one then class two and so on until seven or is it structured differently cant find it on net anywhere, if anybody could direct me to a site or tell me that would be great. thanks in advance.

  1. After Group races, Class1 includes Listed races including about 4 Listed handicaps, with weight range restricted to 14lbs; then the top handicaps fall into class 2 as do lots of other races, then classes 3 to 7. If you look on the results pages at either racingpost, attheraces or sportinglife the class of race will be given after the race title.

  3. You are essentially right in what you say.

    Class 1 are the best kind of races carrying the highest level of prize money, right down to Class 7 which is really the worst kind of raicng with the worst kind of prize money!

    I'm afraid I cannot find anywhere online that you can see a list showing the breakdown of minimum prize money for each class of race - I have plenty of copies in my office, but they are all hard copies!

    You could try contacting BHA to ask if they would send you something, but I wouldn't hold your breath!
