  1. I'm no expert but it means that you are betting on it to win, OR come in the first three (or four if there are enough runners in the race).

So if you do £1 each way, that costs £2.

If it comes in second then obviously you've not won on the £1 wagered on the win, but you have won on the £1 'place' money.

If it had won at 10 - 1 then you would have got back £11, but for a place, you only get a percentage of the odds.

    Hope this helps.

  2. e.w means the horse has to win or get placed....if the race is a handicap you get quarter of the odds .if the horse wins you get paid for the win and place.if the race is a handicap with 16 runners or more you get paid for 4th place.on course bookmakers sometimes offer 5th place if there is loads of horses in 1 race

  3. this means where you pick which horse come in 1 and 2 but you have to double the amount you place

  4. The previous posters are correct.

You should try looking at the rules on sites like www.willhill.com or www.ladbrokes.com too as these will give you a full explanation of their terms when placing each-way bets.

    Hope this helps.
