Could British Columbia build a bridge between Vancouver & Vancouver island if they wanted 1 bad enough?

  2. Conceivable but breathtakingly expensive. An undersea tunnel comparable to the Chunnel between the UK and France would probably be more likely because it would be a bit less expensive. The distance is immense, far longer than that between PEI and Nova Scotia where a bridge was built, and the strong currents and need to keep the channel open for shipping would make for a really expensive engineering problem. The demand for travel between the mainland and the island simply would not justify the expense. The easiest place to build a connection would be much further north, near Campbell River, where the distance between the mainland and the island is less, but then there is the problem of no roads on the mainland connecting that coast to Vancouver. Not likely to see anything other than ferries anytime soon.
