Could Gonzalez upset Federer in their quarter final match ?

Question

Yes Roger won today in straight sets against the frenchman julien benneteau however it wasnt exactly a comfortably victory. I was expecting maybe the first set to be tough and then Roger would dominate from then on in the 2nd and 3rd. Anyway back to my question could Fernando play a good enough game to topple Roger ?

i think roger will struggle to win the french open...he definately has got his work cut out.. hes not firing on all cylinders (or something not quite right). I think it could go to the final set but think roger will make the final but not win..

Ordinarily I'd say no way, but the way things have turned out for Federer this year, combined with the streaky unpredictability of Gonzalez, then perhaps there is a chance of an upset.  One thing to note though is that Gonzalez is undefeated at 16-0 this year on clay (he withdrew with an injury from the 3rd round of Rome after winning two other smaller clay tournaments).  He also beat Federer last year at the Masters Cup in the round-robin, and he has been known to play unbelievably well at times, like at last year's Australian Open before finally coming back down to Earth in the final against Federer.  But I still think Federer will win, maybe in 3 or possibly 4 sets.

i cant see it.federer wants this clay title badly but i think nadal will sneak it from him again l8r on in the tourn.this french is stopping him being the greatest of all time.he;ll stroll thru wimbledon next month & blow nadal out on the way.

Unlikely, but I see it being a VERY tough match. Federer made much harder work of Benneteau than would have been expected. Gonzalez is a far better player than the Frenchman and has a massive forehand. He's also an accomplished clay-courter.

I think Federer will win, but not without losing at least a set. I say he takes it in a highly competitive four sets. ie.- 6-4, 3-6, 7-6, 7-5.

i mean fed was a litlle shaky coming in, but i think he's playing pretty well right now; so is gonzo, but let's agree that fed's well is better than gonzo's well.-

It all depends on which Federer we are getting here at RG.

Yes,he has been winning all his matches but he hasn't looked as comfortable doing so as either Nadal and Djokovic or even Ferrer.

Gonzalez also looked a bit shaky at first today with Ginepri. I thought Gonzalez should have had an easier time but either he's a bit slow OR Ginepri has improved a lot. I know a lot of commentators are saying that Ginepri's clay game has improved but I don't have anything to compare it too.

If I were to be betting money,I'd go with Federer but I wouldn't bet a h**l of a lot.

The same way how Roger played Ancic, he will play against Gonzales and his semifinal opponent who we shall know soon. Roger can't afford to play poorly with Gonzales. I see Roger winning in straight sets. Roger is not going to let Gonzales beat him with his forehand. Watch for Federer to win like 7-5 6-4 6-3 Where's my 10 points you were going to give me from that rabies question you had about the rat biting you? I am trying to get to level 2. I need 49 more points to reach it. Oh sorry, I didn't see that. Yeah, it was a hamster I forgot.

I'm guessing that Federer will win, as usual.  He will make it to the final and lose to either Nadal or Djokovic.  Personally, I think Nadal will beat him, but Djokovic  could beat him as well.

No I don't think he will but I will say I don't think past records matter. Federer has not been playing his best this year to say the least but I've seen people who have a 0-13 record against someone and win.
