Considering how well team GBR have done in this Olympics and the fact that the next Olympics is in London - do you think GBR will challenge The US and China? Or even beat them?

Thanks

  1. i hope so!! my british fiance will be a US citizen by them...should be interesting to see who he cheers for! (i know it will be GBR, but i'm cool with that!)

  2. They will challenge only because they get automatic entry into all sports (being the home team).  If it was a 'normal' olympics for GB, I don't think they would challenge the USA.

  3. No- a country with 300 million of a population just produces far more top class athletes than a country with 60 million. I think we should be looking to improve on our performance in Beijing but we should be realistic about what we can achieve.

  4. Sure, why not? It's not like the US was always good at certain sports - they built the teams up. We used to do horribly at gymnastics - now look at us. These days most of the Olympic level swimmers from all over train in the US because of our coaches and training methods - where there is a will and some talent - anything is possible. The US is not unbeatable and our ego isn't as tied up in winning as the media make it out - we are usually terrible in the Winter games, but we still participate - it's the Olympics after all.

I do hope GB does well as they will be the home side next summer games. You have to root for the home team. Good luck!

  5. probably great britain will surpass the usa...

great britain has improved by leaps and bounds...

the usa isn't dominant in the olympics already... in the track and field, us is challenged by great britain and jamaica now...

great britain is doing great in the track cycling, overpowering france...

i believe that in the next few years, great britain is going to top the olympics medal tally...

let's look forward to the 2012 olympics... china is certainly the champion in the 29th olympics... congratulations to the great britain too... a lot of nations is looking up to the great britain...

  6. The U.S. has a huge lead on Britain in the number of gold medals AND the overall number of medals so no matter how you look at it the U.S. has far surpassed Britain.  This isn't golf, the lowest score doesn't win.

  7. I think it's unlikely but there could be a possibility I suppose.

  8. Anything is possible. Just look at this iteration of the games. The US has had better training facilities than most of the other countries in the world, except for Russia, for many years. This is no longer the case, which is evident by China's vast improvement. Many of the world's top athletes train in the USA and attend universities there so that they can train there. This levels the playing field.

Parity is reaching the olympic games. It is truly becoming a more balanced competition in every way.

  9. I don't think so

in Athens china won 32 gold this is a strong basis for further improvement in their BEIJING olympic games(45 now).i think Britain will do very well 2012 but it is hard to challenge China and USA and i personally believe beating Russia would be a practical goal.

  10. fat chance

  11. Funny how the USA gets 82 medals and counting and it is called failure. Do you know that the USA has finished top of every athletics (or track and field if you prefer) medals table in every Olympics apart from 1980 when they did not compete. Usually they have finished with at least half the total medals too.

I predict that the USA will come top of the medals table in 2012 with about 90 medals. GB will get around 50 medals.

  12. I hope they beat USA by miles (or maybe even kilometres).  I am certainly surprised to see Great Britain so far up in the medal tally and will be very excited to see what they can do in 2012.
