Could Humans handle advanced alien technology or would we have some crazy lunatic killing us all?

Oh yes, the Joker would break out of Arkham Asylum in Gotham and get his hands on it, and we'd all be toast - because about half of the Joker's plans actually work.

We already have thermonuclear weapons by the tens of thousands.  It's hard to imagine it, but the kill zone has a 25+ mile radius.  That's not just a city killer.

Who says that isn't happening now with nuclear and stuff? If we live long enough to create that kind of technology then it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
