  1. From a physics point of view I suppose being short and moving through a thick liquid would have advantages all it's own, while being taller you would gain the advantage of potentially reaching the other side quicker with your extra centimters, however I see no reason why someone 5'10" could not be a pro swimmer.

But could you be like Phelps? I doubt it, he's a freak of nature. But hey, it's definately good to have something to aspire to, someone to look up to etc. (no pun intended :P)

  2. You're short

  3. ur 18 well, if swimming becomes a easy natural ability straight away u could otherwise 18 is a bit tad late. ur pretty short i guess it would make a difference if you win as in olympics it doesnt matter what, its whoever touches that black board first and it doesnt whether is a millionth of a millisecond, its always a big difference. You could try whatever you want, but i dont think you have enough time to match michael phelps if you just began swimming. It takes a beginner at young age, like 4-8 yrs old to be in within the legacy, good luck my friend

  4. your height really doesn't matter that much. it all depends on your ability and determination. age 18 would be a bit too late to start swimming. you would need to practice everyday for A LOT of hours with a professional coach. GL!

  5. i think there should be height classes in certain sports... how is it any different than having weight classes in wrestling?

  6. I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but you're likely too old to ever be anywhere near as good as Phelps.  He's been training for many, many years and has conditioned his body while it was still growing.

Still, if you enjoy swimming competitively, go for it.  Just don't be disappointed when you can't measure up to Phelps.  Setting personal goals, achieving them and most of all, enjoying what you're doing matters more.

  7. it depends if you have been training as hard as michael phelps
