Question:

Could I ask the Club secretary?

My boss and me have a game of golf once in a while but he won't play the superstition linked (No pun) 13th hole. He always scores himself 4 when he knows the hole is a 7. So far I have said nothing but it gets him round under par and I can't take it much longer.

  1. If you want to stay employed let him carry on. The only person he is kidding is himself after all.

Oh and by the way don't play him for money.

But do let him play the 19th hole all he wants,(as long as he is paying).

  2. Why not start at the10th? that way you can see what score he has on the thirteenth hole in real play. Bit of a nonsense really and not what the game is all about. I had a dose of the "shanks" and one of our holes is a par three with cars and the clubhouse on the right but I never ducked out of playing it!

  3. I would talk to the head pro before the secretary.  If it's a private club, the head pro and the pro shop staff are in control of the handicaps and entering them into the computer.  Talk to the pro and maybe he can drive out to the hole when you are playing it and watch your boss to see that he doesn't play the hole, but still records a score.  Definitely talk to the head pro though.  I hope this helps.

  4. You should mention it to someone as a general point.

If you are entering the scores into a computer for handicaps etc then he shouldn't be allowed to do that. He should n/r the score for comps and for handicap adjustment he has a double bogey (thats the most you can score when doing handicap adjustment on any hole)

If its just between you two, then perhaps challenge him to the hole for a pint or something.

Bring a challenge to him. Call him a cheat as a joke and see how it goes.

At the end of the day he isn't scoring what he says and he is only cheating himself.

  5. Well, when you play with him, I'd give

myself a 4 on hole #13 also and move on.

That way, he won't be under par and you

over.  Maybe that will teach him a lesson.

  6. No you can't bother the Secretary with what is plainly a personal matter between you and your boss.

If your boss is unwilling to play the game properly - for a full 18 holes - seems you ought either find a new job or refuse to play golf with him if he cheats.

  7. how can the hole be a 7 ??  there are no par 7s in the world

  8. He's recording his score in the handicap computer?  I'm on your side - pull the plug on him.  If grown-ups aren't going to play by the rules, they shouldn't be playing at all.
