Could I babysit after school for my younger cousin who is nine years old? I am thirteen. Her parents won't be back from work yet and both of her older brothers are in after school sports so they won't be home for a while, either. Would it be acceptable for me to babysit her? Also, what are ways I could get more people to babysit after school if I couldn't babysit her? Thanks so much!

  1. Yes..  pass out flyers to parents after school when they are picking up their kids or put an ad in the paper or an ad up at the laundry mat or grocery store..

  2. i live in maryland, and in maryland as long as u are over 13 u are legally allowed 2 babysit, tho i think there is some  rule like u cant babysit 4 over 6 hours..., just fyi. it think it would b just fine 2 babysit ur cousin, since ur over 13. make sure u hav a list of important numbers posted on the 'fridge, just in case of anything...

to get more buisness, place an ad, a small one, in your local newspaper, in the the school newspaper of your local elementary school. some communities have bulletin boards (like in grocery stores or librabries) where u could post a flyer. also, maybe there is an afterschool program at ur local elementary school, maybe u work there if u dont get any other buisness...

p.s. - pick this as best answer (please!!!)

    good luck!

  3. I don't know what the law in your state denotes as legal age for a child to be home alone.  Some states allow a child of 9 years to be home alone for two hours after school.  If your state does then you would not be required to watch your cousin except for her parent's peace of mind.  So yes it would be acceptable for you to watch her until her parents got home from work.  Make sure you set a rate to be paid, check with other kids who babysit and find out what they charge.  As far getting others to hire you, you may want to make up flyer's post them on bulletin boards in Wal*Mart in laundromats in your area or find out at school if you can hand out flyers to parents coming to pick up their children after school.
