but if you were bi polar and when good things happen could the mean it could trigger a manic episode? You see whenever something bad or sad happens to me I tend to go into a depression but when somthing really good happens to me I tend to get almost manic to the point people look at me strange and I tend to laugh out of place and things. I am on lexapro (anti depressent) but I was like this before I started the lexapro. I just don't get as depressed since I started it. Could I be bi polar? I have been seeing my MD should I just see a PSY doctor?

  1. It is unlikely that you are bi-polar. BP disorder has nothing to do with outside influences. The characteristic manic and depressive stages have nothing to do with sad or happy events in your life.

It sounds as if you have a behavior disorder, not a phychiatric disorder. Laughing at inappropriate times, handling success by manic behavior, etc ... sounds like you have more of a maturity issue than anything.

Generally people with behavior/maturity issues are this way because they try to gain attention to their behavior instead of a flaw that they can not accept.

  2. I suffered from depression for about 3 year. it was a struggle. my brother was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder about 2 years ago. being bi-polar can go two different ways, overly pissed off then overly happy, or over depressed then overly happy. i don't think its your medication. i took fluoxitine during my treatment my brother takes about 5 meds a night. you could be bi-polar or you could just have major depression to the point of delusions. if you think its the medication your on ask your doctor to switch it maybe to a lower dosage because every person goes through depression some worse than others but you might just be having a bad couple days. i hope you get it sorted out. i know what its like to feel lost in your diagnosis and medication!

  3. maybe, manic stages happen even without something good happening though. also the same with the depression. yes sometimes something sad gets me in a bad mood, depressed, but it usually happens abruptly without anything happening. and you cant see a psychiatrist unless a doctor refers you to them so u have to ask your doctor to refer you to one
