Question:

Could I get Hungarian ( EU) Citizenship?

This is a little complicated:

My father was born in Hungary but he (and his family) renounced their citizenship after the communists took over. He currently is a citizen of the United States and he's planning on getting a dual citizenship with Hungary. I was born in the United States (automatically a citizen), do you think I will be able to receive Hungarian citizenship as well if my dad does?

I go to Europe a lot so I think having a EU passport will make it easier for me to travel around.

Thanks

  1.  I don't know when you asked this question, but I received my Hungarian citizenship under the same circumstances as you in 2008. My father escaped Hungary in 1956 and when I inquired about my own citizenship abilities, the consulate said that my father would have to prove his original citizenship (those who left during the revolution did not lose their citizenship since they left under duress), obtain his passport/certificate, then I could apply for mine. I was not required to be a resident for any length of time.
