Could I get in to Cal Berkeley with this info?

3.6 GPA freshman year on 4.0 scale, live in oregon, play on the basketball and baseball team and will through high school, over 40 hours volunteer work already, taking honors english, and 2 other AP classes, 5 years of spanish, 4 years of science, 4 years of math, 4 years of history, if i get a 1900 on my SAT, get a 3.8 each year for the rest of high school, do i have a chance of getting accepted to Berkeley?....I know its a very tough school to get in to, and im way dedicated!!!

  1. You are in luck - Berkeley ignores freshman grades.  But you seriously need to get at least a 3.8 - and even then your chances are not high out of state.

Look in the college guides to see what percentage of out-of-state students are admitted to Cal.  Most of the state schools in California do not admit many non-resident students and since Berkeley is one of the best schools in the country, I'm guessing you'd have a hard time, especially with your GPA and SATs.


  3. No, I would bet a lot of money that you would not get in with those stats.

  4. From out of state you'll need minimum 4.0 UC weighted GPA and 2100 on the SAT. But honestly, it's not worth the $40,000 plus per year it costs 0ut of staters with nothing but the Federal loans as aid.
