Question:

Could I get into college?

I am a senior this year and I am really nervous about getting into college.

My GPA isn't at all great, I have a 2.88, but I have been in only honors and AP classes all through high school if that matters. I also have 500+ hours of community service and about 5 extra curricular activities. I am not talking about getting into Harvard or anything like that, I just want to know if I could get into say The University of Maryland, or Towson University.

Thanks.

  1. you can get into towson if you have a respectable SAT... maryland could be tough but on the application check the box saying you would go summer session

i go to psu... we are!

  2. You should be ok.  Your community service is a definite plus.  Have you taken the SAT yet?  If not, I would suggest studying hard and trying to get a good score on that.  Colleges like high SAT scores.

  3. well, a 2.88 is a high C, but you may have a higher gpa than you think if you took mostly AP classes. talk to your counselor and ask her if thats your estimated gpa or if that is your actual gpa, with ap factored in. that said, schools will be impressed with a history of AP courses, but if you didnt do too well in them, they may get worried- college courses are harder than AP high school classes so they may wonder if you can handle the work. your gpa isnt super low though, and state schools, depending on your rank, may weigh your extracurricuars and sat scores (if your score was pretty high; id say youd probably want to be in the top 20-15th percentile) into the equation and you could then become a desirable candidate in their eyes; those extra activities can really help an applicant with an average gpa. apply for as many schools as possibly and work on a really great application essay. im sure you'll get in somewhere, and it will most likely be a good school. good luck!

  4. If they don't take you, you could go to community college for 2 years then transfer to the college of your choice. There is nothing wrong with community college. It is less expensive for your parents.

  5. You will definitely get in SOMEWHERE.  I did VERY poor in HS and I didn't plan on going to college.  The last week or so of summer after senior year my mother told me I needed to either get a job, or go to school so I enrolled in a 2 year local college in Business Administration.  I never took SAT's and they took me in after I took a placement exam.

I went there for the full 2 years and then transfered to an accredited 4-year university and when I graduated from there I applied for the MBA program there and got accepted AND offered an assistantship.

I've been doing very well.  You just need to put your mind to it and GO FOR IT!!!!

    Good Luck!!!!

  6. I'd assume you should be able to get into either of those colleges, Towson being the harder of the two.

Lately some colleges have had trouble getting applicants so the 'average GPA' and test scores are a bit inflated due to them being able to be more selective in the past. You should be fine getting into either though. Good luck.
