Question:

Could I get to this level?

Yesterday was my first day boarding, I did somewhat okay considering I dont skate, wakeboard, or ski etc. However I fell on my tailbone and now im down for a couple days so that can heal. But my question is: With practice does it get easier, and how much practice, considering im a total newbie, will i need to be able to do decently on a hill with medium difficulty? Lastly, I thought I would ride right foot first, since im a righty, but left foot first felt easier, just a little unnatural. So should I go lefty next time? Any helps or tips appreciated =)

  1. If you're a righty, you're going to want to go left foot first. Which foot do you kick a soccer ball with? That foot should go in back.

It isn't really easy to put a timeframe on when you'll get good, because people progress differently. It only took me a day or two, but I'd been a skier since I was five and skateboarded a little, too. Plus I have really good balance. It does get easier with practice.

The best advice I can give is to keep at it and don't get frustrated. If you start to get frustrated, take a break for a bit. It's fun once you get the hang of it.

FYI - Left foot in front is "regular," right foot front is "goofy."

  2. If you're right handed then you should be riding with your left foot forward if your like most people. As for your question, when i started snowboarding i had no clue how to do it. Everything felt awkward. So I bought the snowboard lesson package (almost every resort has them) and after the hour of the lesson i was probably 100x better. Lessons may be expensive but it only takes one for you to have insane fun. The third day of snowboarding i was hitting double black diamond runs at Blue Mountain in ontario (biggest mountain in ontario). So definately get a lesson.

  3. well ive been boarding 6 times and i can already do high intermediate runs.

  4. ok. to see which way you go have someone lightly push you forward whichever foot you put out to catch yourself is the foot you want in the front.

and yes. you will get better quick. my first year i started on the bunny hills. like by the end of that season i was hitting at least the blue square ones. black diamonds in mind for next year
