Question:

Could I go to the Olympics?

I was wondering about my times for these middle distance races. And do I have potential to be in the 2012, or 2016 Olympics? I am a 13 year old girl.

400m- 1:01.83 (I ran this at a provincial meet last week and placed 3rd, I was the only thirteen year old in the finals, the rest were 16 and 17)

800m- 2:29.51

1500m- 5:14 OLD TIME (The last time I ran this I was 12, so it's hard to say what my time would be now)

Do you think I have potential?

ps. I live in a small town and do not have access to an indoor track. I only run in the summer, spring and autumn months (not all year around.) And I don't have a coach.

  1. No, but you're good.

Forget the Olympics, they're all on performance enhancing drugs...all of them

  2. wow you are really fast for a girl and your age

maybe - keep, up the good work and make sure to join your middle schools track team

high schools cross country, winter track, and spring track team

as hs gets harder you better be smart too or else you won't be able to keep up with academics and athletics

    and don't get pregnant

    LOLOLOLO

  3. maybe, but you have to make big sacrifices and have no social life or a little social

  4. You could be an Olympian.  Your times are good and it's is good base to start with.  You will need a coach and you will need to train all year around.  Since your are 13 your goal should be the cross country team in High School.  If your lucky your local High School has a team.  If not they should at least have a track team.  Cross country in HS is 2 to 3.2 mile races.  So they train at 3 to 4 miles once or twice a day starting in about August.  They run through late Fall.  Track starts up in early Spring. Feb or March.  I would check with the local High School to see if they have a Cross Country or Track Coach that can help you.  They will want to help I would think since they can view you as a future member of the team.  They may even let you train with those teams but some states have restrictions on this.  If you local school can't help look to towns around you until you find one that will.  Don't give up.  Your age if perfect to start training harder.  Also most people don't like to run in the winter.  You might need to try to find a place to run indoors or on a treadmill if the weather is bad.  You can also try running in the pool at an indoor pool.

The main thing is don't give up.  If your dream is to be in the Olympics and you have the natural talent then the rest is up to effort.  Also don't let anyone tell you can't make it either, just worker hard to prove them wrong if they do.  Good Luck !!!!

One last thing.  From your profile name it sounds like you might also be a swimmer.  Swimming is perfect cross training for running.  You might also think about triathalons.  If you can't make the Olympics down the road you might be a good Triathete.  Think Ironman !!!

  5. Once you get your mile time down to 5:00, you'll become known around your state.  If you can run under 5, then you'll get recruited by a major university, and they'll help you get to the Olympics.  Maybe in 2016

  6. hmm its really impossible to tell. those are def great times for your age! and you do have potential to be a great runner, but the olympics are still a far ways to go, it'll probs be tough to be in 2012. maybe 2016.

you need to keep working hard..and remember how many other people there are that want the same thing (go to the olympics) you really have to stand out, and those times are really good but i know like 5 other girls your age getting times like those...im not trying to let you down but you idk if you realize how hard it is to get into the olympics.

p.s. if you are really striving for the olympics you may want to join a team or get a coach. if neither are something you are able to do then you might want to loook for good workouts online/magizines/or books.

    good luck though
