I really want to help the environment. I live in a small town with no big changes whatsoever. If you could find me a list of things o just a great idea, I'll give you 10 pts!

  1. On this very web site is a category for environmental questions. You could browse questions there by clicking the category and the big "discover" link, or by doing searches.

What do you mean by "no big changes"? I don't get the connection.

One thing you could do is find other environmentally-minded people in your area, and figure out what things make most sense to push for politically in your area.

In general, keep the environment in mind as you live your life. Buy things with little or no packaging, recycled things, recycle things (or push for a way to do that where you live), avoid driving when you can, don't dump toxic stuff on the ground or into the air.

  2. Don't jump up and buy an electric car. You still have to burn fossil fuel to recharge them and then theirs the batts that have to be disposed of as they go bad.

  4. I like your question.  I think that setting an example to others in your town may perhaps be the best thing you'll do.

I would try to do things that take advantage of your location.  Perhaps you could have a garden, a compost pile, even a few chickens for eggs and their manure to help your compost pile.  This is healthy, and it helps the environment be being organic and reducing energy expended to transport things to your table.

If your town is nearby your house and it is flat, walk or ride a bike as much as possible.  This is healthy, may not take any more time, and it helps the environment and our country.

There are also lots of things you can do to improve the energy efficiency in your house.  I think your electric utility company might be a good starting point for that.  Where I live, they'll come and do a walk-thru and make a list of suggestions.

In any case, start small.  Do things that come easiest and hopefully they will become permanently incorporated into your lifestyle.
