Question:

Could I have "left" my body?

After working until midnight I would naturally be tired.

I'd usually stay in the kitchen and watch TV, go thru mail etc.

Mainly because I smoke and feared falling asleep on the couch.

Several times, while sitting at the table Id feel like I just became aware of the fact that I'm there.

Sort of like I just got here. Like time has gone by but I don't know where.

I know I wasn't falling asleep, I never dropped anything, didn't have the head drop, etc. I'd still be sitting upright, holding whatever was in my hand.

I didn't become aware of my surroundings with a jolt, I just felt like "well, here I am".

What do you think was going on?

  1. astral calepsy

  2. Did you  notice the time? Did you look at the clock either before or after? Is there any  thing like loss of time that causes you to think that something had happened to you? Or was it just a little click in your head that made you more aware of where you were? Do you remember doing anything while you were sitting there before this happened? Did you just light a cigarette and then notice that it had burned down more than you expected? Maybe you were just so tired before that you didn't even notice what you were doing. Maybe sitting at the table is a thing you do automatically and you don't even notice anymore that you do it. I think that might be the reason.

  3. You can fall asleep for a second or two without noticing it.  It happens to a lot of people in boring classes.  You don't drop things, you just nod off for a few seconds and then come back to with a jolt.  Happened to me today in a really boring talk.  No, you're not leaving your body - you're just tired.

  4. You went to sleep -- nothing more mysterious. It is possible to go to sleep for a short time withot losing posture or muscle tone. That takes several minutes. Why suggest a supernatural explanation when there is a simple natural explanation?

  5. it happens to a lot of people.  it even happens to me.  unfortunately, it happens to me when i'm driving.  ><

but yeah, if you'd left your body, you'd have felt like you were floating around the world and looking at your body.
