Could I make profit off placing a video game system inside a bar/club?

Question

Say me and a friend went 50/50 on a video game system (PS3, Wii, XBox 360) then put it in a bar, or club or something like that and charged 3 or 4 bucks to play for 20 to 45 minutes. Would this work to make some extra money. Like a pinball machine for the new era.

Actually, a lot of places have done this & don't charge for it.

There are several coffee houses around Salt Lake City, Utah that feature PS3 set ups (including Guitar Hero). There's generally a nice couch set up by the TV & system. People form a line by the couch if someone's already playing & they wait their turn.

Also, back when I was a bartender, you had to have a pretty specific group to make any money from your pinball machines. Most people just walk right past them.

Its possible that it could work if done well but the problem is most people that would play the video game probably have it already and wouldn't want to pay to play. Plus you need to find a popular game, something that people can just pick up and play, racing game, DDR, guitar hero.

I have seen it done in some places but one problem you must be ready to run in to is maintenance, controllers breaking or getting spilled on. I would recommend sticking with something like a pinball machine that can be set up and for the most part left alone but if your willing to put in some work and find a good location then a console will do a good job of picking up some extra bucks

Well I think a better idea would be to have tournaments and charge an entry fee. Have some madden tournaments and give the winner a portion of the proceeds. When you are not having tournament, then charge per game. Say for instance you have Madden '08 football. Charge 5 dollars per person to play a game of 3 minute quarters, and the winner gets a beer. You will have people there all night.
