Could I re-use commercial glass jars for canning?

Question

I buy alfrado in a glass jar and usually clean them just before recycling. The lable peeled off of the jar and I noticed it was a 12oz atlas 'mason' jar. However it does not look like the ones I buy for canning purposes.

Am I able to re-use this for any canning ? Would it be safe ? Is this common?

I use those jars but I get new lids to seal them.

Yes, if you find the proper sized mason jar lids & rings to seal them with you could - DO NOT re-use the lid that came with the jar!  It's probably best to wash & dry the jars in a dishwasher to sanitize them first - can't hurt anyways.
