  1. Sorry, all the above is bad advice. You can and should negotiate the price on any car. That being said:

    1. Honda is notorious for believing all their vehicles are "hard to get". They are not. You just need to work at it more. Don't drink that Kool-Aid...

    2. There is really no such thing as a factory order these days. Most "import" cars have a short list of combination avail. Helps with inventory and planning. Try asking for a dealer locate. If it does not exist anywhere, then it probably won't get built, even if they do take a deposit.

    3. This means that price has become secondary to getting the car. You can negotiate the price, but you would be better off asking for the "swap manager" to help you. Time is money too. I would also try the internet dept. or the web for Honda Accord forums to see if this combo is being built.

    4. Lastly, if you can't get the car you truly want from Honda, why give them the business. Try a competitive product. That being said, Manual transmissions are becoming rare. Do you self a favor and test drive a "manumatic" (auto w/manual shift) before you decide. Better MPG, crisper shifts, and being lazy in traffic are all byproducts of these new tranny designs.

    Good Luck!

  2. McCoy is correct.

You have to keep in mind that if you back out at time of delivery, the dealer must then turn around and hope someone else wants to buy that car with YOUR specs.

**EDIT** -- Carshopper, I think you need to spend some time on this site and answer more than 15 questions before you go off and call other advice "bad". When I worked for Honda, and a customer wanted a certain build from the factory, usually the distributor (not Honda itself) wanted the customer to pay retail. They were taking a chance that the car would have some feature/combo that other customers would not want. I remember folks coming in and asking for absolute bare-bones Civics, with 5-spds and no air conditioning. Exactly the opposite of what the general population wanted and what the dealer usually kept in stock. So, the dealer would adhere to the distributor's wishes (as you might know, it's a political BS game) and ask retail.

Now, "can" you negotiate a custome-built vehicle? Sure. But keep in mind that the dealer will probably stick to their guns.

  3. Nope. If what you want is so important to you that you have to special order it from the factory and not have the dealer install the options you want or locate the car from the distributor then you must be willing to pay for what you want.

  4. You can but really the dealership has the upper hand in the situation because you are getting a special for you so its hard to get what you want out of the price.

You obviously have your reasons for doing that. But from experience buying a 04 (in 03) Ford F150. Not even 6 months later they had such great deals for the same truck. We lost an easy 8k. So i will never buy brand new again unless its brand new from last years.

What do you want custom built? I mean you can add aftermarket parts for probably half if you are looking for exterior/interior, or engine mods?

  5. Yes, you can still negotiate the sale price of a custom ordered vehicle. No matter what the situation is, there is always an Invoice price and Sticker Price.
