I ran out of solder and wont be able to get it for awhile. I need to solder some prongs in my car light, and just to check I connected the prongs with a paperclip to see if soldering would work. It did. So could I solder using a paper clip or something similar?

  1. No you can't solder with a paperclip as the texan said.  A better temporary solution is to use a wirenut so your connection doesn't touch a ground in the car.

  2. The melting point of the steel in a paper clip is much higher than is solder. Your soldering iron does not get that hot. The copper wire that you want to join will melt before the paper clip and if you want to solder a wire and a connector clip the connector will melt at the same temp as the paper clip.
