I've been reading around and everyone says it is ok to wear just one but the eye with the lense wil become dominent and your vision will become unbalenced.

My left eye has had problems and my vison is very blurry, so for about two years my right eye has been dominent and I am used to it by now. So should I be able to wear just one contact lense?

  1. dunno i would wear two but have a corrective one and a plain one get soft ones though and disposable are far more hygienic-i wore just one on my wedding day and at the end i felt a bit funny and it was not cuz of drink cuz i dint have any cuz we were takin our kids on hols and needed to be aware.....just in case you were wonderin

  2. Yeah you can. That's what my step dad is starting to do. But he kinda has to he got his 1 eye poked out years a go & has a glass eye & patch now.

  3. i don't know if that would be a good idea i think everyone has one eye that's stronger then the other but I've tried that and i know that for me to be able to see my best i have to wear both

  4. Most people have one eye that is dominent.  My right is for distance, and my left is for close.   I have a very close friend who has the exact same thing, and she has been wearing ONE contact in her eye for over 6 years now.  It's just like wearing monocular lenses for her, she says.  :o)

  5. No, or at least I doubt it very much.  You should ask an optometrist.  Your eye prescription should adjust to the differences in vision between your two eyes.  The one eye would have a stronger prescription than the other.  I am not sure how you could focus both your eyes together properly if at all if you were only wearing one lens.

Often when one eye is dominant and the other eye is weak, the condition is referred to as "lazy eye".  The treatment for lazy eye is just the opposite.  The stronger eye is patched up in order to give the weaker eye an opportunity to strengthen through use.

I think you should see about getting your contact lens prescription updated.

  6. Contact lenses are dangerous, they can scratch your eyeball and promote infections............you would be better off getting a monocle and wear that, or an eyepatch over the good eye, then your weak one would get more use...............

  7. I wear a contact lens in my left eye and my right eye has normal vision.  I was prescribed eyeglasses several years before I actually started wearing them regularly.  My right eye was dominant over my left eye for several years (15+).

I started correcting my vision when my right eye started having difficulty compensating for my left eye.  I had problems with depth perception, double vision when viewing distance images, and some nasty headaches.  In my case wearing the contact lens has evened my vision out so I use both eyes rather than having my right eye compensate for my left eye.

I started wearing eyeglasses to correct my left eye at first but they made me nauseous and dizzy for a few weeks so I switched to a contact lens shortly aftewards to lessen the side effects. The contact lens was much easier on me.  I have a moderate amount of astigmatism in my left eye so everything is a little blurry, but distance is worse than near.

I usually wear a contact lens in my left eye when I go out and wear my glasses when I am at home.

I hope this helps you with your decision.

    Good Luck!
