  1. No. Ezzard Charles was one of the top 3 light heavyweights ever (possibly the best ever) and a very good heavyweight champion.  Sugar Ray was one of the best (possibly the best) welterweights and middleweights ever, but Ezzard would just be much too big for him. Ezzard Charles KO'd Archie Moore and he'd do the same to Sugar Ray within 5 rounds.

  2. Ray Robinson almost did win the light heavyweight championship against Joey Maxim. He was way ahead on the card, but then he just got worn down by the bigger fighter. Most historians I've read say Sugar Ray was at his very best at 147, was possibly the best ever at 160, too, but just wasn't big enough to ultimately win a championship at 175. I've never even seen film of Maxim, but from the film I've seen of Charles fighting at that weight, I can see why he is rated among the top light-heavies of all time; he's underrated as a heavyweight champ, too. I have to think he would just be too big for Robinson.

  3. Yes,but it would have been a tough brutal match for Robinson.Robinson was fast and probably tag him with those jabs. It wouldn't be a knockout. But like i said it would have been very tough if he fought  Ezzard when he was a lightweight.

  4. charles at 175 pounds vs robinson at 168 pounds.

charles would be too strong for robinson....this would be competetive for a few rounds before charles strength takes over and the ref steps in to stop it in the 8th round.

  5. Ezzard Charles was one of the most underrated ever.

Was Robinson the same @160? Charles was awesome as a heavyweight. Although I always say, "you never know.", this would be a stretch.
