Question:

Could Russia ever become a member of NATO? Or any Middle-Eastern countries?

Could Russia ever join NATO? Or any middle-eastern country such as Iran or Iraq? What are the "entry requirements"? Are there any permanent members such as Britain or USA? I know that permanent means permanent but is there no way that a "permanent member" could be expelled from the organisation?

Also, what would happen if two NATO countries got into a war against each other? Say... Germany thought they'd attack France again? That's under my assumption that both Germany and France are in NATO but I don't know?

And, one more question: What happens if a NATO country is attacked? Do all the other NATO countries automatically go to war with the country that attacked them? For example, if Georgia WAS a NATO country like it wants to be and Russia attacked Georgia, would NATO attack Russia?

This really interests me and I'd be quite happy to give full marks for a thorough and informative answer. :-)

  1. NATO was created as anti-USSR military organization. There is no way Russia could possibly join anti-russian organization.

  2. russia has no interest in joining NATO and having it anywhere near their borders.  this is one of the issues of the conflict and their invasion.

there are too many things in place and circumstances would have to be severe for two NATO members to go to war and one or both would have to withdraw from NATO or be expelled for breaking the rules.

there are treaties in force that says when and where NATO can and will come to the defense of a country.  if Georgia has been a member, it would have evoked a much different response.  i doubt that this would involve an immediate military response until the other options have been explored.

there is at this time no present equal organization, that we are aware of, for the other nations you mentioned.

asking for member help would be a the first step..

  3. We don't want to NATO because this organization become hostile to other countries. Initially NATO had been made for security, not for invasions in other countries.

    Russia doesn't support this policy.
