  1. Only if you count gluttony as a sin.

  2. Most people don't believe in that sort of thing so most of them will probably say no, but having been through the whole spectrum of spirituality, religion and even non-belief over the course of my life, I would dare to actually say that yes, it's possible. There's much in the World we don't understand; most religions have some concept of karma or justice and the whole "cause and effect" thing. On the other hand though, you don't need to be religious to believe in the possibility that human activity can harm the environment. That said, there are some who will say global warming is perfectly normal and that it's happened before. And that may be true, but there weren't as many people on Earth then so there weren't as many deaths caused by severe summer heatwaves. ;)

  3. No; the balance of evidence points to carbon emissions as the cause of recent global warming.

I don’t believe in the concept of sin, but environmental destruction is wrong on so many different levels. I do believe that God weeps over our wanton disregard of His creation.

  4. I dont believe in God

I just think Global Warming is a result of what people are doing to the Earth....

Its like a you Slap me and I'll slap you scenario :)

  5. There is a reason why skeptics claim that global warming is a religion.  We are sinners by polluting the earth.  Now god (mother nature) is going to punish us.

  6. Psalms 106:29 Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them.

This is caused by the works of mankind resulting in global warming.

  7. If sin includes wastefulness and greed, then perhaps.  The sins would be our destruction of the world that the Christian god gave us stewardship over (according to the Bible).  I highly doubt that god or Jesus would appreciate the awful things that we have done to our planet!  We are supposed to be caretakers - not destroyers!

However, global warming is the direct result of our actions - not divine retribution.  Consequences occur for all actions.  The declining health of our world is simply that: the consequence for years of bad choices.  Unfortunately we are left with a mess that previous generations have created.  We need to change our actions and ways of living to be more environmentally aware and sustainable.  It's only our survival at stake.

  8. Good question.  I think the answer is yes, but for the following reason.

The global warming lie was invented to extort money from businesses and fearful people.  The sin, is greed on the part of the global warming promoters, like Al Gore.

He appears to be bloated by his greed.  So maybe the punishment of the perpetrators has already begun.

  9. How many people have died from global warming. d**n the avg temp has been the same for the last 10 years

  10. wow. scares me to think some folks have this logic. global warming is a result of us abusing our resources and chemicals etc going in to the ozone layer and damaging it. hey, can i blame god for the writers strike? i really miss 24, the office and family guy.

  11. james h

sin could have a part in it for sure.

Let me start off by saying we (my family and I) live 100% off of the grid and are completely self-sufficient with a 0% Carbon footprint. I believe this is the first step anyone can make “help the environment”. Once you convert your own life style to a greener more eco friendly route, you can start helping others.

We definitely didn't start global warming, but we definitely do contribute to it now.

Natural gas (or Methane along with other thanes) for example, is completely a natural contributer to global warming and is derived pretty much the same way as oil. ie. Matter (animal, plant etc) decomposes over time resulting in a anaerobic (hope I spelled that right) decay of non-fossil organic material / gas (natural gas or methane).

One problem with global warming is that the concept is so vague in the minds of the people. The critical interpretation is basically how it’s explained in school and the news. However most of the public see global warming connected with the ozone and pollutants which cause harmful greenhouse gasses, etc. therefore investigating and fighting for things like alternative energy (ie. Solar, wind, hydrogen, ethanol, biodiesel, etc)

Greenhouse gases are real and do contribute to global warming. Think of the different gas layers like ozone (o3) that circumference the globe as the clear plastic on a greenhouse. Longer rays of light from the Sun go in and reflect off different thermal masses bouncing back and creating shorter lengths of energy that cannot exist the plastic barrier. These beams then just continue to bounce around inside the green house until they’re finally absorbed completely (some do escape but very few), thereby warming the greenhouse greatly even in cold temperatures.

Basically there are 2 ways that this reaction (or lack of) affects the planet. Global warming and global cooling.

    1. as we add to the gases in the stratosphere, where the ozone layer is (Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, etc), we add to the plastic of the greenhouse, trapping more short wave length energy and heating the earth more.

    2. as we deplete the ozone (with chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs), we allow more long wave length energy, which bounces back out to space without heating any thermal masses on earth, thereby cooling the planet.

It’s pretty easy to see the results..

    Melting ice sheets & glaciers

    Floods & droughts

    Great hurricanes & cyclones

    Seasonal extremes

    Seasonal phenomena’s

    Species extinction

    New & resurgent diseases

There are many ways to stop both global warming and cooling from accruing or at least slow them down until we can discover a way to reverse it, but Stop burning fossil fuels is the biggest.

I currently own 2 converted h2 vehicles which run on 100% hydrogen and 1 EV (electric vehicle), not to mention our home is completely off the grid, using alternative energy (solar, wind, etc)

  12. If you believe in God then you believe that God loves you. Why harm the innocent in order to punish the tainted? I do not believe it is God. If you read the Bible, God warns you to take care of your land (stewardship). Since we did not do that, we (as humans) ended up destroying the world.

  13. For some the waters are muddy enough anyway.

The idea of sin causing bad things, h**l or catastrophe is just the powerholders way of controlling the masses and retaining power.

All the way from the institutional;isation of religion to greenwash, it's always been that way.

  14. dude, religion is c**p.  Humans made it all up, and we made up the concept of the existence of god.  It is an emotional crutch, and it is slowing down the advancement of humans.

How can people rely on religion so heavily?  Is it just the newer generations that have allowed science to purge the religious delusions from their minds?  I feel that people believe in god because their parents did.  Over the last 3 generations, I have noticed a declining interest in religion, at least in my family.

  15. I always had a feeling that the 'deniers' on here are just displaced religious zealots. I think that ignoring the facts of global warming is a SIN!  Leave religious dogma out of any real discussion of scientific issues.  In case you were not aware of it,the Bible has already been discredited by other scientific discoveries! Copernicus and Galileo proved the Bible, and the 'stories' as just fantasy or folklore.  For their efforts, the Vatican had them placed under arrest to try to prevent every one from knowing the TRUTH!  I'll bet you 'deniers' would love to put Al Gore ,and Jim Hanson in jail to get them to shut up. There is so much HATRED for them, and other brave, and intelligent scientists. I can imagine how difficult it must be to hear that your religious beliefs are just a collection of ancient folk tales, that the Christians plagiarized,to call them their own. Science is language of the Universe.  ALL religions were created in the absence of Science!

  16. No. The earth goes through cycles. Sometimes warmer, some times cooler. Sometimes an outright ice age. It is foolish for man to think he is so great he can effect the entire planet. We are just not big enough. Manmade global warming in a hoax created to scare people out of their money.

  17. I would like to invite you and anyone with an open mind to read the books called "Conversations With God "by Neale Donald Walsch

I would probably replace the word sin with the word karma.  In that sense, it is our karma yes.  The world conforms to our thoughts and actions. If you don't believe this, I would also invite you to read the books of Fred Alan Wolf Phd, a theoretical physicist who writes books about consciousness, the nature of reality, and quantum physics.

"The Spiritual Universe", "The Dreaming Universe" and "Taking the Quantum Leap" are three of his books.  If you have seen the movie  "What the Bleep Do We Know?" you have had an introduction to him.

I would also recommend the book "The Tao of Physics" by Frijof Capra- it is the original book on this topic that was written in the 1960s.

The reason I am recommending these books is because most of the worlds people have an incorrect notion of reality.  And this is the crux of many of our problems.  The enlightened view, and that of quantum physics, is that we are all one.  In fact everything in the universe is all one.  This is not a theory, it is what enlightened peole experience.  It is as repeatable as any scienctific inquiry, analagous to the scientific method in having repeatable verifyable results.  We are all one is the realization of all enlightened people from every religoius tradition and spiritual path.

The failure to realize this is the cause of most of our problems.  We are polarized along national, racial, religioius, lines by  "us and them" thinking.

And the other realization is that all is sacred, that everything in the universe is connected and sacred.  Everything has intelligence, even an atom.  The failure to see the earth as sacred it at the crux of our failure to take care of our environment.
