Could Tiger be the greatest athlete... ever?

Question

He is on pace to destroy any equivalent records of any sport... what do you think?

I believe Tiger will make history as the greatest athlete to ever play the game.

You can't really compare Tiger Woods the golfer with greats of other sports.  Will Tiger be considered the greatest golfer ever?  Probably yes, until somebody comes along who's even better.  Who was the greates hockey player of all time?  Gretzky?  Probably, but 20 years from now people might say Sid Crosby.  Who was the greatest baseball player?  Babe Ruth?  Mickey Mantle?  Who knows, depends on the era.  Can you pick any one of the above and say he was/is/will be the greatest athlete ever?  No.

I don't know if you can call him the greatest athlete ever. But by the end of his career, he will have had more success in his sport than any other athlete.

He will definitely be the wealthiest.  Time will tell.  He'll get Jack's major record, but he will not EVER win more than 11 tournaments in a row.  Yes I said it.  That record is safe.

Greatest golfer of this era ...  yes. Just like Jack Nicklaus was the greatest of his era, and Palmer, Hogan, and Jones before that.

But there's no way to compare athletes across sports. Is Tiger a better athlete than A-Rod. There's no way to tell.

Thats sort of like the kids arguments about who would win in a fight: Superman or Batman.

I think it is ridiculous to compare athletes of different sports.  It can't be done.  But, no question that Tiger is probably the greatest Golfer, so far.

Tiger is probably one of the most gifted natural golfers we know of.  He was born with this tremendous ability.  Every sport has their own outstanding athlete.  What makes Tiger stand out is the age that he started golfing and the records he started breaking when young.  His intense concentration and ability to read the greens is exceptional to me.

i would say yes to him being the greatest golfer. to say athlete though i am very hesitant. how do you measure that? he definately can't translate his athletic ability to another sport. bo jackson, deion sanders, and  kenny lofton were able to use their athletic talent to play professionally at more than one sport. he could be the most dominant player in any sport but i can't agree to him being the greatest athlete of all time.

Not fair to compare to other sports. BUT while Tiger is the best golfer in the world I dont think he has any more skill than some of the otehr guys such as Sergio, Phil etc...Tiger is set apart by his desire to win...I think the other guys are pretty happy doing well with the occassional win.  Tiger cant sleep if he doesnt win and he is able to focus so intensely  and apply himself that it seems he almost wills himself to win. So greatest golfer...yes...most skilled - no.

Since we cant comare across sports this is impossible to directly answer.  But, what I can say is that Tiger will be the wealthiest athlete to ever play a GAME.
