The reason I ask is simple. Where I live Rottie's are common place. When in the woods I pass them off lead and always get a little scared. I personally love Rotties and would have one but I do wonder how well my Akita would fare against one should it attack. I am getting a Bull Mastiff soon and they are slightly larger than Rotties I wonder how they would be if a Rottie decided to attack. I am not talking about dog fighting as a sport. I hate this but I am wondering what your thoughts are on my dogs being able to handle themselves against such a threat. **** It must be noted that only once in the many times I have passed a Rottie has one tried to attack my Akita. The truth is that labradors and Small dogs have tried to fight him more than the larger breed dogs. I am not attacking Rotties they have proven many times over that they are very friendly dogs. I am just asking Your Opinion. Could a Bull Mastiff or Akita hold there own against a Rottie.

  1. I really don't know.  I would think an altercation could go either way with such large, muscular dogs.

Rather than worrying about if your dog could hold his own....you should definitely get some mace and walk with a large bat if there are that many dogs running around loose in your area.

  2. Bullmastiffs are not aggressive in nature.  If you have one that happens to be on the submissive side then the chance of the attack is not likely.  Just worry about teaching your dog to stay calm.  However if a rottie attacks your bullmastiff and akita will protect themselves.  Just don't freak out because it can make the situation worse.  My girls are really submissive. They love other dogs.  But lately I see signs that one of them is ready for anything.

  3. well honestly rotties aren't a small dog they are very large the males can weigh up to 165lbs if not more just depends on there father. where a male bull mastiff only weighs 133lbs. rotties are a lot more sneaker then any other breed cause they use rotties for cattle drive's and they are a butchers dog and honestly i think a rottie is more stronger then a bullmastiff only because where my rottie came from her mother 5 guys had to hold this dog down so people can get the puppies and the mother was a very strong dog. Bullmastiff's are a slow moving dog rotties are more active then bullmastiffs cause they are so big that they really can't do anything. female rotties can weigh from 116lbs and up males and female rotties can be very aggrieves even when a female has puppies they are like a mother bear! bullmastiff females only weigh 110-120. these dogs tend to be lazy so provide regular. where a rottie isn't a lazy dog at all they are always on the move and they love to run and go swimming. The Rottie is calm, trainable, courageous, and devoted to their owner and family. Firm and careful training is essential for this breed, otherwise you may end up with a very powerful and overly aggressive dog. Rottweilers talents include: tracking, herding, watchdogging, guarding, police work, carting, competitive obedience, and schutzhund. be personality i would own another rottie before i own a bullmastiff honestly. the rottie  be aggressive with other dogs and should be kept on leashes in public places. males are alot more stronger then females but there are some females are that the same weight a a male and that are built like a male rottie. it just depends on what kind you would like. the rottie are used more then bullmastiff or akita. they really aren't used for anything just guarding house's maybe by rotties are used for alot of things like tracking, herding, watchdogging, guarding, police work, carting, competitive obedience, and schutzhund.  where a bullmastiff and akita aren't....... so honestly i think a rottie would hold it against bullmastiff or akita.

  4. mastiffs are much bigger then rotties usually.

your dog could hadnle the threat

  5. You need to be prepared to protect your dog if such a situation would arise, not rely on your dog to defend himself.  Unless you like vet bills and heartache.  Carry dog mace or a collapsible steel baton and keep them on you when you walk your dog.  If you can figure out who's off-leash dogs they are, you need to contact the owner and let them know it's a problem.
