  1. No, Presidents aren't that powerful. But they can appoint Supreme Court Justices who would interpret the Constitution objectively and accurately in which case Roe v. Wade would be overturned. But that would only mean that the issue of abortion would be sent back to the states. Even under those circumstances, Presidents who make those appointments are still not banning abortion.

  2. By the power to appoint Supreme Court Justices.  This power is likely to be wielded in the next four years, so the issue has never been more important, in my opinion.

The first answerer raises another important point.  Don't just focus on the presidential campaign.  Focus on seats in Congress coming open.

  3. No.  Only the Supreme Court has that power.

The President can nominate new Court members when there is an opening, but even that is subject to confirmation by the Senate.

  4. Indirectly he/she can influence it.  The President appoints Supreme Court Justices - the justices could outlaw it.

  5. That is in the realm of the Supreme Court where they would have to declare that a law allowing a woman to have an abortion is unconstitutional.  The end result would be a banning of all abortions no matter what the circumstances.  We know that Governor Palin of Alaska favors such an action, but the Supreme Court alone has that authority.

  6. No it would have to go to the supreme court

  7. no goofball, the local laws against abortion were overruled by the Supreme Court, the President nominates Supreme Court Justices who then must be affirmed or rejected by the Senate.

The President cannot write or remove laws, only influence the court through appointees

  8. No.  If congress passes a bill calling for that action, the President can sign it into law.  That's not going to happen.

  9. No. Google Roe v Wade. Oh yeah read a newspaper every now and again.

  10. NOOOOOOO but the congress could.

  11. Roundabout way. Could try to get pro life supreme court justices to overturn Roe v Wade.

  12. Not directly because as the supreme Court has ruled it is a constitutional right. However the court is divided 5-4 on the question and the next president is expected to appoint a replacement for one of the "5" so his choice could  change how the court would rule, and therefore take away the right to have an abortion. What would happen then would depend on what laws congress and states made regarding abortion but it is unlikely that it would become illegal  everywhere in the US. Even if it were outlawed in all of the US, it would still be legal in other countries where women could get one, or buy the abortion pill RU496.

  13. No, but it won't stop the evil b******s from trying,
