  1. It's not about being able to "stand it".  Marriage is not important to everyone, and some peple think that the "benefits" are actually hinderances.

  2. Me and my boyfriend live with my daughter who he is not the biological father of and we don't intend to get married.  We make a good family unit, supourt each other and provide everything that the other needs, our family would be considered unconventional but by todays standards it's pretty normal.

If we were to get married, it would be catering to societies outdated views and costing us an awful lot of money that could be better spent in many other ways.

For many people, I see why they would want to get married, but it's not something that people need to do.

I feel I maybe could have explained things better if you had said what you percieve the benefits of marriage to be.

  3. one of my good friend's parents arent married.  theyve been together for a LONG time.  the whole family is very nice, and there dont seem to be any problems involving marriage.  so yes, a family could easily stand to survive without marriage as long as the couple is in love.
