Question:

Could a fully (or almost fully) developed foetus survive if the mother died?

This question is a little odd, yes. But I'm curious! Say if a heavily pregnant woman was murdered or died of natrual causes- if doctors got there quickly enough could they deliver a healthy baby?

  2. yes, i am sure a baby can survive after 24 wks or something like that. there have been times when mums have been kept on life support machines until the baby is able to survive on its own

  3. Only if the doctors got there quickly enough.  But the baby does not use it's lungs so needs the mother's to provide oxygen, it gets all its nutrients from the umbilical cord.

  5. yes it has happend a lot, baby's can survive nearly a whole term if the mother is brain dead but on a respirator.
