I never taken my guinea pigs a bath before and I heard that a guinea pig could die of shock. I know how to properly take a guinea pig a bath.. but could it still die of shock? Should I even give them a bath? I was planning to give them a bath 1 or 2 times a year.

  1. just get a wash rag wet it ad wipe her off because it is posible

  2. No. I have given all my pigs in the past baths, and nothing has happened. Just make sure the water is very shallow, and lukewarm. Wrap her up in a towel afterwards, because it'll be a little nerve-wracking.

  3. Well, we just filled the bath tub with and inch to an inch and a half of water and set our guinea pig in it.  Then we took a cup and slowly poured warm water over him.  He seemed to like it, so I wouldn't worry about it.  Be sure not to wash it too often though, 1-3 times a year is good.  Hope this helps and good luck with your clean piggie!

  4. i give my pig a bath mostly just when he smells bad.

what i do is fill my sink in the bathroom with Luke-warm water put him in but always keep my hand or arm near him so he is near me and comfortable. then i take a small cup and gently pore water over his body making sure not to get in his nose, eyes, or ears. I then wrap him in a towel if its cold or if the sun is out i sit with him on my porch in the warm sun and let him chew a stick.

believe it or not Guinea Pigs can swim, look it up on youtube, i would be careful about this tho, don't want a scared or worse piggy.

  5. My cousin and i bathed our hamsters like once every other week.

with baby shampoo and a dry w/ a towel and on the cool setting with a hair dryer.

If they are so scared of it they could have a heart attack or die of shock.

But it is not likely unless they are utterly and completely terrified of water or being held close...

  6. I had one die of shock, she was deaf and there was too much commotion I guess, the next thing I knew she was limp and doing the agonal breaths and then nothing, she was gone, it was horrible.  BUT I do give mine baths and in the summer I fill up a kiddie pool let the sun warm the water and add some lettuce etc, and they love it.

  7. I have long hair piggies, and i bath them whenever i have the time, probably every 2 months. I don't think a piggy will die from the shock, if anything it is a great way of bonding with them. Just remember to avoid getting water in their eyes and ears.

Some with love the bath and some won't, but i still make them have one!

  8. if i were you i would ask your vet because then you can know if it will die or not. they will probably bathe them for you just to show you how to do it incase you dont bathe it properly.
