Question:

Could a longer shaft on my driver be the reason that i fade the ball?

My driver is 46" long which is 1 inch longer than standard. Its not a slice, just a small fade. The driver is the only club that I fade.

  1. A longer shaft would more than likely have you swinging on a flatter plane, giving you a more inside out swing. Not necessarily a bad thing! I bet if you play the ball a bit forward (about an inch) and tee it higher, you'll hit it straight. Also, the shaft maybe a bit too stiff for you. Is it the same flex as your other clubs? Hint: NEVER mess with a slight fade... ask Jack Nicklaus.

  2. not true

    i'm using a 46' long driver too

don't think about how long is yr driver when u tee off just hit it the way u hit other club.

    also how tall r u

  3. Open the yellow pages, find a club fitter and get all your clubs fitted properly to you.  If one is not listed in the YPs then ask a golf professional for a recommendation.

  4. Maybe.  But it also could be the shaft flex.

  5. Well maybe if its a small push fade a longer shafts makes it harder for you to catch up with your hands and arms this causes a straight push or push fade.

  6. Not too likely. More likely you swing from out to in, then causing your left to right ball flight.

  7. it is possible that the longer shaft doesn't allow you to square the clubface perfectly which could cause a slight fade.

  8. it has to do with shaft stiffness.  The 1" longer shaft allows for more torque.  Personally a small fade is preferable.  I would play the fade.

  9. Make sure the pro is a club fitter as well. It could be a loft issue. Most players are using drivers with too little loft.

Torque has nothing to do with shaft flex.

  10. In truth, there are just too many reasons. We answerers can't see your swing or even know what kind of new driver you have. In addition to all the other answers - of which any could be true - maybe you can't get the club around in time (too much swing weight?) and leave the face open, or maybe it has a square face not a draw bias like you may have had, or maybe you are catching the ball outside the center of the club face, or maybe ...
