Could a rain forest dry out in the summer when it don't rain for about a week?

i dont think so

every morning the whole place drips with water just from the condensation of the leaves

a rain Forrest is called a rain Forrest because it produces its own rain the precipitation is so much ,and the surrounding country contains the clouds ,so the water moves up and down usually daily ,they are the wettest types of Forrest's,

the Forrest below Victoria fall is also called rainforest's's but it get its continual water from the spray of the water falls ,

rainforest's are mostly in the humid tropics.And the flora and fauna is typical

Other forests also produce a lot rain ,but the clouds tend to move elsewhere and they are a little bit dryer, because of that an subsequently have different flora and fauna.

also forests can be found at all over the world not only in the tropics

bio diversity

Rainforrests have a very high canopy ,where the crowns of the trees are .like the red woods in vancouver island .

so there are many levels of bio diversity that can fit in ,like a big box of life ,

the conditions are optimal ,lots of heat & water ,lots of Humidity(day and night)

it is not sunlight, because rain forrests are half shade ,the sun only hitting the tops ,but a lot of heat is created .

and most important of all,it works all year around ,

no winter or autemn to slow things down or stop them .

life goes on day after day ,this is why growth in the tropics is so vigorous ,because it is all the time .

every body that eats the bugs ,

everybody that eats the plants

and everybodies predators

To protect rainforests forever is next to impossible

the Indians or local people would cut everything down and burn the forrest to replace it with harmfull short term farming killing the soil in no time

expanding populations and expanding farming ,that has to keep pace with the expanding populations are very strong forces that encroach upon the rainforest's

clearing them for farming and settlement areas .

In Mexico is a famous jungle that the Media has been trying to save for years

the Naturists ,and the government ,keep watch .laws are made for protection the wild and to forbid logging.

TV put out a series of documentaries

there are campaigns in the News papers

and all of this has not made the slightest difference

Rainforest's always are in third world countries and always in third world countries corruption and the need for money s highest

the jungle gets smaller by the day

more and more farmers move in .and burn the trees

it is an impossible situation

as long as there is poverty and an increasing birth rate in these regions the destruction will continue

the only way to preserve the forrest is to devellop eco tourism under strict control that has limited acces ,and use the local people in the concept as guides ,hotel staff and get them to start home industries of artifacts .

they are too easily tempted to sell of exotic animals to the unscroupelous people who buy them.for the market that exists in th USA.

just leave the forrests alone and look for ways to improve economis situations on the edges of Nature .

eco tourism is the only concept that profits by a healthy back ground with out harming it

I remember going through the cascades in Washington State. They were declaring major drought conditions and fires watch, baning all camp fires, etc because it had not rained in one month. I am sure if you ask forest rangers in national parks where it rains all the time they would say yes to your question in one form or another.

The rain forrest is what is called a triple canopy forrest.  There are essentially three levels of total covering so much so that sunlight is almost blotted out during the day at the ground.  Because of this, the ground stays moist and relatively wet.  The smell of the rain forrest is overpowering the first time you visit it.  This is because of the decaying vegetation of which there is a very thick matt on the soil surface.  Under the canopies, it is hot and steamy and usually misty, kind of like walking through a steam room.  It would have to not rain for a year to dry out the forrest floor.  Frequently, it will rain in the forrest, but not be raining above the forrest because the tripple canopy creats its own weather mini-environment.

I worked in the Ecuador jungle for 12 years . The normal RAINFALL IS ABOUT 199 IN. PER YEAR , is that enough??   Yes there are dry times but that is not very long .
