I drive a 1992 Ford F150 5.0 302. I ran my code scanner and it gave me a code 118- Engine Coolant Temperature sensor voltage is too high. With the engine running I ran the test again and recieved a code 998- Engine control system operating in Failure Mode and Effects Management. Could the that one faulty sensore be s******g me? I really need to figure it out, because my engine running in FMEM explains all the problems I have been having recently, and I need to get it running right.

  1. if your coolant temp sensor is not working, it can give you all kinds of problems. they are very inexpensive to replace and also fairly simple as far as doing it yourself. if you have a scanner let the truck sit overnight and hook up your scanner in the morning if you have live data on it. once you start the truck check the temperature of the engine as per the scanner and watch as it heats up into loop mode. if you just have a hand held scanner and not these capabilities, just replace the sensor and be done with it, as its very simple, good luck
