Could an illegal go back to home country?

Can an illegal alien go back to home country without force before being deported? I've been hearing that there still would be some kind of penalty. i have a friend who came illegally with his parents when he was young and wants to go back to come here the right way.

Leaving is no problem. After 9/11, if you leave by plane, they now check your passport before boarding, and the worst would be they'll see to you to board the plane to make sure you leave.

Should be OK and that's the best idea I've heard all day.  An illegal wanting to return to their country and come the legal way, well spank me with a shovel..........you don't hear that often.

There would be a punishment, yes. Considering illegally entering the country is a crime.

But if you drive the US border into Mexico though, you won't find much trouble, As the Mexican customs officials are not that picky about visitors. Unless your friend is a Japanese tourist, that is.

As long as you can prove you are a citizen of a country, you can re-enter that country.  Go to your consulate, and get a passport or document permitting your return to your own country.  

You can leave the US voluntarily.  Tell immigration that your parents brought you here illegally and you want to return to your own country.  If you are under 18, and remain in your own country for a few years, you can apply to immigrate and your parents' illegal actions will not be held against you.  If you are over 18 now, you will probably get a bar to re-entry for a period of time, but it will probably be shorter than if you were deported.

You are doing the right thing, so it will work out all right.  Go home as quickly as you possibly can.
