forget the problems they would have getting votes, not talking about that...I'm wondering is it legal......the pres is the commander in chief of the military and I'm guessing the "don't ask don't tell policy is still in play in the military or maybe i'm wrong.....just curious if in fact it's legal?

  1. First of all, of course they can. even if the president were a member of the military (which they are not) and even if the policy prevented a g*y person from holding such official positions (which it probably doesn't), and even if that law were constitutional (which the Court, even as conservative as they are, has moved closer to overturning), and even if the legislature were firmly in support of the policy (which they aren't), it still couldn't stop the people from voting in the candidate of their choice. The requirements for being eligible to be president (35 years old and born in the US) and the procedure as well are laid out in the Constitution. Congress cannot trump that. If they do, the Supreme Court would overturn it in the blink of an eye.

Anyway, "Don't ask don't tell" won't be around much longer. It was a compramise in the Clinton days. Clinton wanted no restrictions, but the military wanted to be able to investigate who was g*y and throw them out, like a witch hunt. The policy was to put an end to the witch hunt and allow g**s to serve in the military on the condition that they keep it quiet. Nobody liked the policy, but it was necessary at the time. Today, when you poll the military, most people think the policy is silly. There are plenty of g*y people in the military who come out when they leave. There are many who are known by their friends to be g*y, but they keep it quiet. People have just gotten used to it and its no big deal, just like women in the military these days. There have been quite a few who came out and were kicked out of the military in spite of having crucial skills, like translating arabic, that the army is very short-handed on. That's why polls of the military have shown support for abandoning the policy, especially since the military tends to be young and young people tend to be more open minded about such things (even if the military also tends to be more conservative than their civilian peers of the same age).

40 years ago, I think it was RFK who said that we might have a black president in 40 years. It looks likely his prediction could come true, down to the very year. Today, I would guess it could take that same 40 years to see an openly g*y president. Hopefully less, but with 1 new president every 4-8 years, it can take a long time to see change in that position.

  2. There are no laws preventing g*y people from becoming president.  Otherwise it would have to be one more law that Bush ignores.

Whatever happened to Bush's favorite male escort, Jeff Gannon?  He was in the White House about 100 times.  Also, Bush's college roomate Victor Ashe is openly g*y and he and Bush were cheerleaders together.  Bush made him the ambassador to  Poland.

  3. You came pretty d**n close with this election!

Except sHrillery is not open about anything.

Gennifer Flowers claims Bill said that sHrillery gets more women than Bill; now that's impressive because Magic Johnson said Bill Clinton's list, blows his away! The secret service leaked that Hillary had flown Hollywood lesbians, like Markey Post, for weekends at the WH, when Bill was out of town.

If Hillary was elected and only after her re-election, would she find the doorknob of her closet.

To answer your question, only when g**s break their alliance with the democratic party, to mutually support each other, will an openly g*y President have a chance.

  4. i would think they could but i dont think people would vote for an openly g*y person.  im not a homophobe or anything thats just the way the world seems to work nowadays

  5. Yes, it's legal to be g*y and be president.

No, a g*y person can't be president yet.  But one day they will. Our country is not open minded enough yet.

  6. It's legal but not likely.

  7. Probably not...most people are bigots.  Being openly g*y doesn't mean you are "telling". You can lead a normal life like anyone else and prefer dating the same s*x.

I don't tell anyone I am straight but I am open about loving my husband in public and if I was famous I am sure pictures would be taken of me dining and vacationing with him.

  8. never............. are your kidding? The f*g would be killed in no time.

  9. The president may be commander in chief but is not an actual military member.

  10. i don't think that would sit well at this time, but in a few years it could well happen. Clinton/Obama have changed politics significantly this year, wether people realise or not.

  11. Well, if he were a "fem" g*y person he could be his own First Lady.....

  12. Can you just imagine our Commander in Chief playing leap frog with  another man? Barf, Barf, Barf. What if they passed the same s*x marriage act and he and his lover decided to get married? We would be the laughing stock of the world.

  13. No

What is the difference anyway?  The only reason you get only two choices really, is that Americans might actually figure out that voting is just semantics if there was only one presidential candidate.

Although, probably not, just get in their car and drive a quarter mile to the drug store to get their issue of people, so that they can see pictures of bradgelina eating hot dogs.  and t hink someone out there is working hard to make their life better

  14. It's not unconstitutional for someone who's openly g*y to be the President.  The armed forces have to follow the orders of whoever sits at the top.  The armed forces can't say, "he's g*y, I'll do the opposite of what he says and go invade that country."  They won't like following his orders, but they will have to.

Getting elected would be the only issue.  If he was openly g*y, he would probably lose a majority of the votes.  If he ran as a straight person, and then came out of the closest while President, people will probably want to impeach him since he kept secrets about himself hidden (e.g., lied to the public).

Although, if his rival was a super villian like Lex Luthor, he'd be a shoe in (I'd hope).  The interesting thing would be to have 2 males or 2 females at the top....the President and the First Significant Other (First Lady).

  15. of course it's legal.
