Could animals on Earth (other than humans) evolve over time to become intelligent the way humans did?

Assuming our world survives for millions of years to come, could other animals on Earth evolve to become intelligent species like humans did?

To bad we wont let them we are putting many animals to extinction gradually even our selfs I believe this planet has room for only one dominant species there has always been one when we are gone a newer and more advanced species would dominate Dinasours - Humans - maybe are advances in technology wil create biology technology and a species which is both technology and biology will dominate but as long as we are around not another animal in todays animal kingdom will get a chase to become intelligent

of course they could but there will always be variables to determine how and when (if ever). environment, weather habits features etc etc....all variables which undoubtedly change everything!!! even if they are only small in the here and now could progress and become major in a million years!!!

yes actually they found leg bones in a whales skeleton nad beleive that whales were in fact land animals and EVOLVED to sea animals

It's possible that if man lasts long enough he may evolve into an even more intelligent creature.

Why can't we just evolve into a mind, with no need for a body, communicating telepathically and doing any necessary work through telekinesis.

As a religionist I tend to disagree......humans alone have been given intelligence and the insight that goes with it to appreciate not only their living but their Maker.

We still do not effectively understand the intelligence and logic (if any) of animals......but in their own way they may have an understanding and philosophy of their life......and appreciate it too.

Remember many animals, insects especially and marine life have been around far longer (evolutionarily speaking, that is) than humans. Humans had evolved (according to the analogical time scale) at the last 15 minutes to midnight......

it is definately possible.

also you would think that with all the memory training and teaching etc we are doing to animals like elephants, chimps, dolphins that they would become more intelligent over time (but thats just my theory)

Only if humans left the Earth.  While we're here, we'll prevent any other animal from developing technological intelligence naturally.

You may have noticed that chimps, gorillas, orang-utans, are either endangered or threatened species.  We will exterminate them within two hundred years... along with most of the world's lesser apes and monkeys too.  Darn shame.
