  1. Been a Muslim for 4 years never heard of a "blood shedding practice" My husband been a Muslim all his life, never once heard him talk of it, discuss it or practice it. I dont even know what it is to be honest with you....

If your referring to meat we dont eat the blood of animals. The animal has to have shed its blood but if you are talking about something we do to ourselves, not a clue. Not a part of Islam I am aware of.

But you have to remember some Muslims are in sects and add things to the faith does not mean they are from the faith.

I will be interested to see if any Muslims can shed some light on the issue because its not one i have ever come across.

    peace to you...

    EDIT

Ah I see what your referring to now, Shia flagellating themselves with knives etc. Yeah its not part of Islam its something Shia as a sect have added to there worship. Nothing to do with Islam. I know the story your referring too the boys had been doing it since the age of six and to mutilate your body in Islam is a sin so I dont know why they would do such a thing to themselves. You see that is why sects are forbidden in Islam.

It is NOT an Islamic practice it is a practice of a Shia sect and sects are forbidden in Islam.

  2. its forbidden to shed blood

    why would it be allowed?

  3. The practice is called Matam-e-Zanjeer. It is a practice done by some Shia. It is commemorated by the Shi‘a as a day of mourning for the martyrdom of Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of the Islamic prophet Muhammad at the Battle of Karbala on 10 Muharram.

However many Shia leader are against the practice.

Mostly depends on where you are in World.

The Justification is very simple. s**+'a believe that "Family of the Prophet" and their descents are "Divinely Guided and chosen".

This means that anything they do and say becomes 'Sunnah' (Saying or Practice of Islam).

Some Shia present the case that this Practice was prescribed and done by Zaynab bint Ali (The sister of Husayn and Daughter of Ali), so it becomes a Sunnah.

The way some shia see it as Not Haram is that it does not kill the person or injure the person badly. That is why the flogging is done at the back and away from important organs. This includes the sword to the head which is the practice claimed to be done by Zaynab bint Ali.

  4. Quran doesnot support violence at any place.Islam is a religion of peace.

I will post  some questions asked by people who have misconception about islam and give answers to them.

If a non-Muslim believes that Islam is a merciless religion with something to do with terrorism; a religion which does not give rights to women; a religion which contradicts science; in his limited sense that non-Muslim is correct to reject such Islam. The problem is he has a wrong picture of Islam. Even I reject such a false picture of Islam, but at the same time, it becomes my duty as a Muslim to present the correct picture of Islam to that non-Muslim i.e. Islam is a merciful religion, it gives equal rights to the women, it is not incompatible with logic, reason and science; if I present the correct facts about Islam, that non-Muslim may Inshallah accept Islam.

    Misconception:

Doesn’t Islam promote violence, bloodshed and brutality since the Qur’an says that Muslims should kill the kuffar  where ever they find them?

    Answer:

A few selected verses from the Qur’an are often misquoted to perpetuate the myth that Islam promotes violence, and exhorts its followers to kill those outside the pale of Islam.

    1.    Verse from Surah Taubah

The following verse from Surah Taubah is very often quoted by critics of Islam, to show that Islam promotes violence, bloodshed and brutality:

"Kill the mushriqeen (pagans, polytheists, kuffar) where ever you find them."

    [Al-Qur’an 9:5]

    2.    Context of verse is during battlefield

Critics of Islam actually quote this verse out of context. In order to understand the context, we need to read from verse 1 of this surah. It says that there was a peace treaty between the Muslims and the Mushriqs (pagans) of Makkah. This treaty was violated by the Mushriqs of Makkah. A period of four months was given to the Mushriqs of Makkah to make amends. Otherwise war would be declared against them. Verse 5 of Surah Taubah says:

"But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practise regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is oft-forgiving, Most merciful."

    [Al-Qur’an 9:5]

This verse is quoted during a battle.

    3.    Example of war between America and Vietnam

We know that America was once at war with Vietnam. Suppose the President of America or the General of the American Army told the American soldiers during the war: "Wherever you find the Vietnamese, kill them". Today if I say that the American President said, "Wherever you find Vietnamese, kill them" without giving the context, I will make him sound like a butcher. But if I quote him in context, that he said it during a war, it will sound very logical, as he was trying to boost the morale of the American soldiers during the war.

    4.     Verse 9:5 quoted to boost morale of Muslims during battle

Similarly in Surah Taubah chapter 9 verse 5 the Qur’an says, "Kill the Mushriqs where ever you find them", during a battle to boost the morale of the Muslim soldiers. What the Qur’an is telling Muslim soldiers is, don’t be afraid during battle; wherever you find the enemies kill them.

    5.    Shourie jumps from verse 5 to verse 7

Arun Shourie is one of the staunchest critics of Islam in India. He quotes the same verse, Surah Taubah chapter 9 verse 5 in his book ‘The World of Fatwahs’, on page 572. After quoting verse 5 he jumps to verse 7 of Surah Taubah. Any sensible person will realise that he has skipped verse 6.

    6.    Surah Taubah chapter 9 verse 6 gives the answer

Surah Taubah chapter 9 verse 6 gives the answer to the allegation that Islam promotes violence, brutality and bloodshed. It says:

"If one amongst the pagans ask thee for asylum, grant it to him, so that he may hear the word of Allah; and then escort him to where he can be secure that is because they are men without knowledge."

    [Al-Qur’an 9:6]

The Qur’an not only says that a Mushriq seeking asylum during the battle should be granted refuge, but also that he should be escorted to a secure place. In the present international scenario, even a kind, peace-loving army General, during a battle, may let the enemy soldiers go free, if they want peace. But which army General will ever tell his soldiers, that if the enemy soldiers want peace during a battle, don’t just let them go free, but also escort them to a place of security?

This is exactly what Allah (swt) says in the Glorious Qur’an to promote peace in the world.

Blood Money (Ad-Diyat) [83:10] Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet said, "The biggest of Al-Kaba'ir (the great sins) are (1) to join others as partners in worship with Allah, (2) to murder a human being, (3) to be undutiful to one's parents (4) and to make a false statement," or said, "to give a false witness."

ch :5 v32.If anyone killed a person not in retaliation of murder, or (and) to spread mischief in the land - it would be as if he killed all mankind, and if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind.''

*Jarir bin `Abdullah reported: Messenger of Allah (Mohammad) said, "He who is not merciful to people Allah will not be merciful to him.'' --[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

    1.   Media maligns Islam

       1. Islam is without doubt the best religion but the media is in the hands of the westerners who are afraid of Islam. The media is continuously broadcasting and printing information against Islam. They either provide misinformation about Islam, misquote Islam or project a point out of proportion, if any.

       2. When any bomb blasts take place anywhere, the first people to be accused without proof are invariably the Muslims. This appears as headlines in the news. Later, when they find that non-Muslims were responsible, it appears as an insignificant news’ item.

       3. If a 50 year old Muslim marries a 15 year old girl after taking her permission, it appears on the front page but when a 50 year old non-Muslim rapes a 6 year old girl, it may appear in the news in the inside pages as ‘Newsbriefs’. Everyday in America on an average 2,713 cases of rape take place but it doesn’t appear in the news, since it has become a way of life for the Americans.

    2.   Black sheep in every community:

I am aware that there are some Muslims who are dishonest, unreliable, who cheat, etc. but the media projects this as though only Muslims are involved in such activities. There are black sheep in every community. I know Muslims who are alcoholics and who can drink most of the non-Muslims under the table.

  5. no

  6. There is no such thing as hurting one's self & others in Islam.

There is a practicing of Matam (beating yourself) in Shia Madhab (firqa/ religious law) while they remember Hazrat Imam Hussain during the Islamic month of Muharram.

Imam Hussain was the grand son of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who was killed in a battel against the then Muslim ruler.

    EDIT:

You must know that it is no where written in the Shia Islamic law (fiqah) that one should hurt him/herself. It is more about regional & cultural influence that is mostly popular among shia Muslim living in Iran, Pakistan & India.

    EDIT-2:

It is very interesting to notice that such a practice also exists among certain sects in Christianity. Actually the Persians (Iranians) were having a very strong culture, like that of Romans... and Shia Muslims, since embracing Islam were somehow much influenced by their culture, just like the way Roman Caltholics were influenced by their culture.

  7. Could blood shedding and self flagellation be thought of as violation of the body which Allah/God created?

  8. ALL muslims(all of those of islam) must obey allah absolutely and with out exception... allah decrees that islam is to dominate the world and that all who do not submit to islam are to be killed.......... that means there would be a whole lot of blood shedding... if there were any chance that they could actually do it... and they are trying... and a lot of blood has been, and is being, shed.

  9. its practised by shia sects. not in islam generally. in fact i think its forbidden
