  1. I think it has something to do with the climate. When we stayed at the moon palace in cancun I used to have one come and sit under my lounger nearly everyday which I loved.I just used to leave it alone and it never bothered me.So as long as you don't bother them things will be fine and I think they do swim in the water.

  2. Because of the climate (hot and humid)...

I'm not sure if they bite, but I know they can whip their tails pretty hard!

  3. They do bite. They will not bother you, they just hang around minding thier own business.

  4. Iguanas live in the tropics. Cancun is in the tropics. Iguanas live there because of the climate and food. They are not 'friendly' but are very wary of humans so you cannot get close to wild Iguanas. They will run away if you try. They can indeed bite, but you would have to chase one down and grab it to get bit. And yes, they swim. That is how they often escape from my dog in my back yard. They jump in my pool, swim across, jump out and climb my back wall before she can catch them. I have three 3 footers plus in my back yard.

  5. LOL!

    Your question made me smile!

Iguanas are found there 'cause the same reason deers are found in Wisconsin or beers in Canada: That is their natural habitat.

Okay, Iguanas can look uggly (..according some people), but they are friendly and eat only vegetables; they are good pets too. As some other pets (like hamsters), they could bite, but it is uncommon (a rabitt would bite you easier than an iguana).

And, as any small grass eater animal, they will run away from you as soon they see you. Remember, they are like the rabitts among reptiles, they are preys, not hunters! (they assume humans are predators, therefore they are natural afraid uf us)

  6. Iguanas are found in Peru,Brazil, Mexico and the Caribbean islands. Yes, they can swim.

Iguanas have excellent vision and can see long distances, shapes, shadows, color and movement. An iguana uses its eyes to navigate through winding trees and confusing forests, as well as finding food. They also use visual signals to communicate with members of the same species.

Iguanas are preyed upon by hawks and their fear of hawks is exploited as a ploy to catch them in the wild. The sound of a hawk's whistle or scream makes the iguana freeze and it becomes easier to capture.

If the threat persists the  iguana will lash with it's tail, bite and use its claws in defense.

They won't hurt you unless you try to hurt them. Some people make them pets. I find them fascinating but I keep my distance. Don't worry, they won't come near you either)
