my cat is 2 years old and hes a huge jerk. every time i try to hold him he'll bite me and scratch me and i have no idea why. he was really sweet as a kitten, but he became a jerk after he went outside. Is there anything i can do to make him a little less mean? and yes he is neutered.

  1. feed meat as a treat. beef poultry or pork. cooked , no seasonings.

    he wil love you

  2. Your cat may be one who just does not like to be held. His biting and scratching his how he is telling you he does not like it. Maybe he should be a house cat.  Try setting aside time to play with him every day, and don't trying picking him up. After a week or so try getting him to sit close to you and after a bit longer try picking him up again.  If he still wont allow it, he is just one of those cats who simply does not like to be held. It is no reflection on you, it is personality.

  3. If your vet has ruled out any health problems that may be making him cranky, try this: Don't pay attention to the bad behavior. He's trying to get you to notice him and if he gets no feedback from you, he will stop. Reward good behavior with treats and petting but walk away and ignore any aggressive outbursts.  You can also try a Feliway diffuser which releases calming pheromones into the air and mellows out the cat. These have worked wonders with aggressive cats.

  4. Well since you said it happened around after the time she went outside maybe he's wants freedom and nature. Maybe it doesn't like being stuck in the house all the time. Although if you put it outside it might get fleas but I really think that's the reason. I had a rabbit and everytime I let it go out it doesn't wanna go in it's cage again so I let it go in the woods and things. But I want it back now...

I had a cat but it loved being inside it go's in my closet and sleep on my clothes, and under my blanket almost sat on it...lol

  5. kitties have their own personalities. My cat is a jerk too sometimes, which I don't accept.Whenever he tries to bite me I flick him on the nose- that's their sensitive spot. Have you thought about getting him declawed? That could help with the scratching and when he is in pain from the surgery, put warm salt water on a Q-tip and rub it on his paws. It sounds super painful, but they love it! They sit there and purr and you can bond with your cat!

  6. get him a friend, just someone to play with, so hes no bored, it helped with my cat

  7. Was he like this before he was neutered? Sometimes having a cat neutered can change their temperament dramatically. it could also be that being let outside has brought out his more feral instincts and he's now treating you like the other cats treat him. Outside cats tend to be more aggressive because of the predators that they may meet outdoors (dogs, stray cats, mean people, or other wildlife). Think about how long it has been since you started letting him go outdoors and when the problems started occurring. he may be stressed and may actually think that you've abandoned him to some extent by sending him out into a hostile environment. Try keeping him indoors for a week or so and see if he mellows out at all. If he's still being hateful, I'd suggest calling your vet to see if there might be stress issues or something else that could be his problem.

    Good Luck.

  8. Cats do change, and for reasons only they know.  My oldest cat was a lap kitten, then changed, and is now very affectionate only on her own timetable.  Don't try to pick her up, or prepare for the consequences.

So if you challenge him by trying to pick him up when he doesn't want to, you will suffer the consequences.

I would start with brushing him, to give him a positive reward for being with you.  If you haven't brushed him, do it slowly and a few strokes at a time to get him used to it.  Generally a full brushing from heat to tail is how his mother groomed him while he was a tiny kitten.
