Earth’s average surface temperature is 290 K. Use Wien’s Law to calculate the peak wavelength at which Earth radiates. What region of the spectrum is this? Why is this important to the greenhouse effect?

  1. wavelength = Wien's displacement constant / temp in K

    = 2.898 x 10^-3 / 290

    = 9.99 x 10^-6 m
