  1. in all two-population tests, one of the populations should always be the population against whom the experimented samples should be compared. for example, students in class A were given supermind vitamins everyday while students in class B were not. then a test will, for example, show that students in class A will perform better in exams. if established that before the vitamin intake, the 2 populations had equal performances in exams, you may conclude that the improvement of the students in class A was due to the vitamins.

    Null: The supermind vitamins resulted to class A's performance = class B's.

    Alternative: The supermind vitamins made class A's performance > than class B.
