Unless I am remembering wrong, this gun has a wrench rentable from a gunsmith such that you can replace the barrel yourself easily in a garage vice with padded jaws. This opens the door to all cartridges based upon the 308, such as 243, 7mm08, 358, and many more less commonly seen. Or the gunsmith can do it all. Google "rifle barrel replacement/ Savage". The 243 delivers 1000ft-lb past 400 yards, and won't cause stress cracks in the bones of aging shooters. Regards, Larry.

You might try e-gunparts.com if your planning on doing it yourself. savage company might also be able to help. a good gunsmith should be able to either make or order a barrel for your gun.

Howdy - You might want to check out  www.GunBroker.com, its sorta like eBay but they sell firearms, ammo etc.  A few cold calls to random gun shops in your area might spark a few leads.  A few years ago i searched high and low for a vintage M94 30-30  barrel.  I called a gun store and sure enough they pointed me in the right direction.  good luck.
