  1. Trans-Siberian express

  2. Yes - Michael Palin could tell you. He did a superb series of programmes for a TV series of railways all over the world ! ! !

  3. Birmingham New Street to Rugeley, especially after dark when all the chavs come out at Bloxwich.

  4. Once you get outside Wales, it becomes a wonderful, peaceful, relaxed journey.

    I don't care where it goes, as long as it heads away from whines (sorry, wales).

  5. In my limited experience:

    In England: Leeds to Carlisle via Settle and Appleby;

    In Wales: the Ffestiniog Railway from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Porthmadog;

    Elsewhere: from Banff (Alberta) to Vancouver  (BC) on the Rocky Mountaineer.

    You could also consider the Manx Electric Railway from Douglas to Ramsey.

  6. Waterloo to Chessington South.

    Especially when the Theme Park is closed.

    It's a lovely run that is the shortest and quietest of the ones I drive.

    Traindriver, South West Trains.

  7. Orient express!

  8. The longest one is most probably the Tras-Siberian-Railroad,

    for sight-seeing the two best ones are the Glacier-Express in Switzerland and "El Transcantabrico" in the north ofSpain. The latter one is probably also the best one (one week journey, travelling only at daytime, lots of excursions included. Look at the internet pages of both.

  9. Trans siberian railroad is probably the best known.

  10. There are many which could vie for this.

    Australia -  Cairns to Kuranda - quite short but through rainforest and over a trestle bridge built right in front of a the Stoney Creek Falls.  Also the Trans Australia Rail Sydney to Perth has the longest piece of straight track in the world.  There is a new line from Adelaide to Darwin too via Alice Springs.

    Mexico - The Copper Canyon railway

    Either of the lines across Canada.

    The Trans-Siberian

    Another good one is the Singapore to Bangkok line which may extend to Chiang Mai.

    Here's one for Hoghead - the track across the Donner Pass.

  11. My favourite was from Strasbourg to Milan through the Alps. Unforgettable.

  12. In the U.S. I think the California Zephyr from Chicago to Los Angeles is a nice ride.  I've never been on this, but I've heard it's really pretty.  I'm not sure about routes outside the U.S.

  13. On the East Coast Main Line (ECML) in the UK.

  14. Orient Express

    TGV

    Eurostar

  17. The one I would love to take more than anythign is the Trans-siberian railway.

    I can think of no other rail journey I have heard or read about that would even compare.

    Not for pure luxury, take the Oreint Express for that.

    But for just for pure adventure, the Trans-Siberian is the one I will dream about til I can retire and do it. Probably alone LOL, my wife siad she will stay home and look at the pictures.

  18. Probably the Orient Express

    It was one of the most luxurious methods of travel in its hayday.

    If you google it you will find out all about it

    breathtaking views and a huge variation of cultures in the countries which you pass.

  19. From Glasgow, via Fort William to Isle of Skye
