  1. potatoes reach maturity when the tops wilt down.

    The grow,,they flower,,,they wilt,,you dig'em up.

  2. They flower first, the flowers die then you can harvest them.  Timing is according to variety but generally early to late summer.

Edit;  this is a sensible answer, similar to the one above as it happens,   so  what dozy dingbats given me a thumbs-down??

  3. Depends when Planted, I threw some spuds that were seeding on my compost ( which is open to the elements)

About 6 to 8wks ago, and In about a couple of weeks they will flower, after the flower dies, you can dig them up anytime after, just take what you need at the time!

  4. As above really, but it depends when you planted then; rule of thumb - earlys go into the gound in March/April and should be brought up as or just after they flower - basically now or a few weeks ago.

With the maincrop - they should go in in April and be due to come up in September or August.

So saying, I've a maincrop that's wilting now, so some plants will be coming up a month early.

  5. To add to previous answers, remember not every variety of potato produces flowers.  Why not gently scrape back some soil and see how the potatoes are coming on?  I planted mine at the start of April and began digging them up as I needed them a few weeks ago - lovely !
