Could be possible to defeat a bigger and stronger man using boxing only?

was wondering if it is possible for me to defeat someone much stronger and bigger than me in a STREET FIGHT or self-defense situation, using only western boxing skills. Lets say that my height is 5' 8'' and my weight 155 pounds, but my opponent is 6' 0'' height with a weight of about 250. And let's suppose that this guy doesn't know how to fight... but he is much stronger than me.

How many chances I have to win this fight / defend myself if I have boxing experience?

  1. It is possible.

You only have ONE chance to either win or lose in a fight.

You need to remember that a fight has no Marquis of Queensbury Rules.

  2. well if ur gonna get into a street fight im always gonna say karate is what you should train in because its the art of my choice and has worked very effectivly for me, that being said, you have a chance to win, yes u do have a very big dissadvantage with the size diff especially because boxing unlike other martial arts is designed around guys the same size fighting eachother, so it dosnt offer a whole lot of street defense againts someone larger, on the other hand skill is skill no matter what fighting system it comes from, becuause if ur a very well trained boxer and this guy isnt trained then ur skill should lead u to the vitcory u want, my advice to u is if ur gonna fight this guy then go to ur boxing gym and start sparring with the heavy weights to get used to suomone that size throwing punches at u, if u feel u can take it then knock the ***** out, if it helps my friend is 130 pounds and about 5'5, not a very big kid but he happens to be a very talented wrestler, he got into it with a 6'2 200lb skin head who had burned swazticas into his arms, my buddy took the ***** down and held him there, so u see wrestling even though its not really considered a fighting art still has its strengths and because my friend was good he still won, jus like boxing might not be considered self defense but if ur good u can still win

  3. of cause it is.any form of martial art (which includes boxing)will give you an advantage over an untrained person no matter what there size.self defence is about brains not size.

EDIT>it's hard to get an intelligent answer on this site but this would be the smartest thing I've seen on here for awhile-

people "win" sports competitions, people "survive" street attacks

  4. first off i hate these questions. second to answer your question yes it is technique over strength period.

  5. Your chances would be better of course if you were trained, but you'd be at a serious disadvantage.

With those size differences, the best thing to do in that situation is gas the guy out with speed and quickness.

But everyone has a punchers chance...

  6. I'm 5'5'', 170 lb. and I fought a guy who was 6' 250lb. who was a football player and a wrestler. Wasn't too hard to beat him, but I didn't use boxing. Yes, you could beat him.

  7. Well you have a lot to look at and compare. reach, and mobility, power and speed...

The answer though is a simple and the only one available...

    anything's possible

  8. if he gets ahold of you, you're dead.

if you can stay outside, in striking range you can win. boxing is very underrated in effectiveness because it is limited to only punching and punch defense.

but any fairly descently trained martial artist should be able to beat an average joe.

you just have to fight smarter than he...make him fight your fight. keep him out of his game. ie...don't wrestle a wrestler.

  9. youd have to be good, and theyd have to have minmal training. make no mistake of mystical powers of training, it takes ALOT of training to make up for natural gifts of size and strength. ive seen or been in a mixtures of successes and failures of this method of skill vs. size. if you have a chance run, theres no shame in not getting hurt. if you HAVE to stay, dont play fair and whatever you do, remember people "win" sports competitions, people "survive" street attacks

  10. Please do not underestimate your enemy. Big or small only regarding about size.

Are there any rules and regulations in street fight?

I saw a big kid punched a small drunken man twice on his face. At last that drunken guy just returned him one on the stomach and the big kid knelt down on the floor, Game over!

The one who laughs last laughed best.

  11. Yes it's very possible ,but depends not only in your skill in boxing but your attitude, I'm 5ft 8" and at my peak was 10st and defeated 6ft plus 17st guys.

I was always taught to fight to your height which means basically strike where you can hit ie: in my case the ribs etc ,no point in trying to strike a guy at 6ft plus on the jaw as he only needs to move slightly and you'll miss and be off balance and be open to a counter attack, get my point :)

You really need ultimately to develop a determined attitude ie: mental Toughness which can and will over come most people if you truly believe in yourself, If I can do it you can too believe me.

    Best wishes..:)****

BTW ..I don't and never have proclaimed to be a great technical fighter but I'm a determined person that's all, and in the end that is really what will see you through.

Edit: well said BUSHIDO re: people "win" sports competitions, people "survive" street attacks

  12. not unless your a real good boxer and dodger, cuz if he don't know how to fight he'll be swinging randomly, which means with his strength he could knock you out with a lucky shot. even though he cant fight he'll be swinging more and thats where his arm size and weight come into play , take up muay thai, or free boxing, western boxing to tell you the truth isnt the best form, in fact thai boxing is way better.

i would say that its possible but only if your in really good shape really strong, like as strong as possible for your size. then you have to be a real good boxer, its not something everyone can do with boxing.
