The male was healthy when I got him, but was not as active as the other female bird. Yesterday, July 4, 2008, he was struggling to breathe and I noticed wheezing and he was trying to keep himself up on the perch. An hour or two went by, and at 8:30, he dropped off the perch; I was trying to keep him up w/ my finger but he just fell. He had his wings spread out and was gagging for air. Before this happened that morning, he had been eating fine, but also he was spending alot of time in the cage floor.. I dont know what could have caused it.. he just dropped down and died.. I tried to help but I didnt know what to do..He also had discharge in his droppings.. it looked like pee.. and his food was also in the bottome.. my sister who is an EMT said he might have been having a seizure..

  1. Bird droppings consist of their urine and f***s combined.  Changes in the coloration of their droppings is a significant indicator of an illness.  He may have had Psittacosis.  Symptoms of Psittacosis include dull-green droppings, loss of appetite and weight, or poor breathing.  The lack of solid content in his droppings would indicate that he wasn't eating properly, or not eating enough.  This would explain the watery texture of his droppings.  In the future, a bird with any of the symptoms mentioned above should be brought to a vet ASAP.  I'm sorry to hear about your loss.
